OGT Roll Call: vs. Missouri

Boom!

Not a whole lot else to say, really. It was a complete blowout from start to finish.

Now, I will say that I don't share the feelings of Warden and Danny and KGRTC had during the OGT. I don't think that Missouri are pretenders. Sure, I'm definitely backing off of my Final Four possibility, but I am fairly certain, pending matchups, that I'll have them making the second weekend. The refs were absolutely atrocious today (with some benefit given to the home team, for sure), and it threw the Tigers off of their game. Plus, the fairly large Allen Field House home court advantage really messed up with the younger players.

In the NCAA Tournament, there are no homecourt advantages. There are, hopefully, more well-officiated games. And when Missouri has that, they are awfully dangerous.

But, we can get more into that a little later on. For now, I just want to say thanks to everyone who showed up for today's OGT. Missing a couple of integral members of the usual rotation, me and KC and SlamDunk and a couple others, we still rallied together for quite a haul of comments. And, for the record, I was not...um...partaking in any of Danny Satan's ideas. No, I was at my little brother's basketball game, the Championship. I'm the assistant coach, with my dad, so I kinda-sorta had to go.

OK, enough of this chatter. Here are the stats...

Roll Call: wrigleyrocker12, hunter s. royal, Warden11, James Quinn, I need more Esteban, KennyGregoryRockThaCradle, KCsince88, rockchalk, rptgwb, Denverjhawk, Bensa, labbadabba, Danny Satan, ghtd36, giants9107, mizzoumojo, 3 ball corner pocket, SlamDunkTheFunk

Oh, and Missouri fans (primarily ghtd36), thanks for stopping by. I'm almost positive that nearly all of us were merely partaking in the rivalry aspect of the game. At least, that's what I took it as. Maybe I'm just too much of a peacemaker.

So, again, thanks to all. Warden with the MVP honors. Plenty of awesome comments.

I'm pretty surprised we had 18 folks jump in...

seemed fairly quiet to me. Good stuff though and rookie of the week honors to Bensa…

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

Thank you

for the props, Denverjhawk. I had a great time and look forward to many future OGT experiences with you all.

Until Wednesday…

Nope. Pretenders.

Top 10 teams at this point in the season are supposed to be viable Final Four threats. Mizzou isn’t that, so they are pretenders. When they get back to their rightful ranking in the high teens, I’ll pull off that label.

What were we ranked in '88?

I know we were a 6 seed…

This is the thinking I had on the pretenders comment.

Mizzou should make the Sweet 16, however, I won’t be totally shocked if they get bounced in the second round (though I don’t think that will happen).

I guess I overestimated their hopes on the season. They were ranked #11 in the nation and #7 by Pomeroy, I don’t think they are anywhere near the 7th best team in the nation. I said “pretenders” because of that. To me, they are 15-20 in the nation.

I just got back from your mom's basement.

No.

For the most part, at least the Rock M Nation fans, have been very conservative on the predictions.

In all actuality, I’m the one who started the Missouri for Final Four train, and IIRC, rgtrwb came over and said that even he doesn’t really see it.

I’m backing off of that statement, and I’ve never really seen a (rational) Missouri fan claim they are Final Four material.

Again, it all depends on pretender. Pretender, to me, is someone who most people view as a FF contender, but who really isn’t. I think most would agree Missouri would fall under this category, except there aren’t really any expectations. So, they aren’t pretenders, not to me at least.
