It appears former Harrisonville standout Sean Ransburg simply wasn’t meant to be a Jayhawk. Ransburg, a Kansas signee a year ago, has enrolled at MidAmerica Nazarene and will compete for the quarterback job there, according to Fred Bouchard, Ransburg’s former coach at Harrisonville.
KC Star -- Ransburg Signs with Mid American Nazarene University
Sucks. I thought Ransburg could have been a really good player. It also thins out next year's RB competition to, likely, Rell Lewis, Deshaun Sands and Toben Opurum. Oh, well.
Also, backup QB Tyler Lawrence is graduating in May and leaving the program.

I guess the good news is..
even though it thins out the RB depth…we’re still deeper than last year.
Sharp, Crawford, R. Lewis, Opurum and Sands are all capable of playing time
last year we used 3 Sharp, Crawford and Quigley and got by.

Crapola
Been following this kid (at least, I’ve been trying to since he appeared on our radar 2 years ago). Best of luck in Olathe Sean. (Olathe KS for you Coloradoens.)
That's a Scary Place
Can you think of a bigger culture shock that those two campuses? Going from an elite party school to a place with curfews and where they measure the length of girls’ skirts.
One of the hottest girls I’ve ever met went to Nazarene. What a waste…

srsly.
I grew up in O town. The Nazarens basically run the place. There used to be a dance club in Olathe that the MANU girls would attend until the school started sending “representatives” to make sure no female students were (gasp) dancing with the boys. Its a pretty bullshit orginazation if you ask me. Sorry to any Nazarenes on the site as I’m sure I just mortally insulted you. But I’m an Episcopalian so you can give me crap about our gay bishops.
That being said, most of the Nazarenes who allowed themselves to be free-thinkers made for some pretty good buds in High School.
K. I’m going to end this before the mods get pissed…
Haha.
No worries. We’re all good, here.
I grew up in Overland Park, but was in the Olathe School District (don’t ask me why) and went there a bitchload. In fact, as a kid, I went to Rocky Lamar’s MANU Basketball Camps like four years in a row, from ages like 8 to 12, or something.
So, yeah. Coolio. That’s the extent of my knowledge/experience with MANU.
Ah, man...
I thought we were reaching the point on RCT where we were big enough that we were gonna have out first post yanked off the board… Maybe someday.

Back to the article, though.
Just in case no one clicked on the KC Star link, apparently there is major NCAA typical BS involved:
Here is the rest of the quote from the KC Star article:
Ransburg’s situation is complicated. He enrolled at KU last summer and completed classwork before the NCAA informed him in August that one of his high school English classes shouldn’t have made it through the clearinghouse. He was given the opportunity to take a different class this fall at Harrisonville High — a British literature class agreed upon by the NCAA and the school, according to Bouchard.
Ransburg completed the course, which he took on a computer, and was ready to enroll at KU for second semester. But the NCAA audited the class and again said the course wouldn’t be enough to fulfill his English requirement. Ransburg, instead of taking another course this semester, elected to play at MidAmerica.
It sucks, the most, because it isn’t his fault. Like, at all. It’s just so, so stupid.
Especially because I remember a report saying that he had been admitted into Kansas. Like, IIRC, he was already enrolling in classes and everything. And then they just come back later and say the class isn’t valid? Bullshit.
I’m pissed off. Not just because we lost a damn good athlete, but because the kid deserves to play D-1 football; he shouldn’t have to go down to an NAIA school just because the NCAA can’t get its head out of its ass.
I agree.
The NCAA is a bunch of Neo-Nazi bastards, and I think they enjoy screwing kids over like this. You’re right, SlowDance, he DOES deserve to play D1 ball. Think about the humility it took to go BACK to your high school, where you had just “graduated” from months earlier, where you were a star athlete, and people looked up to you, and you were “that guy” that got out and made it big time, and have to go back there to take a class to meet a set of standards. But, he swallowed his pride, and did it. And, how does he get repaid?! The NCAA basically says, “Hahahaha, you really thought we were gonna hold up to our word, and let you fulfill a lifelong dream of playing Division 1 football? Sorry, kid.” I feel for Sean.

lol,
Screw KU BBall nicknames, we just got one for RockChalk.
As for the NCAA, that is some total bullshiz. KU should raise holy hell over this if nothing else to protect the aspirations of future student athletes. This shouldn’t be swept under the rug. Anyway we can draft a letter to Lew have a bunch of us sign it and have the KU Athletic Dept look into this and bring some rain down on the NCAA?
This is a stretch, but I wonder if (big IF) Ransburg has talent enough to make some money playing football if he could sue the NCAA. His exposure and future earnings will be severely limited at an NAIA school.
Yep...
Ransburg got jobbed…poor kid.
His only option would have been to spend another entire semester taking 1 HS class and working again. I’m sure both he and Kansas were ready for the saga to be over…really too bad things didn’t work out.

This is a sad story.
I would echo the culture shock Ransberg will have going from KU to MANU. I also grew up in Olathe and still run a small business there, and the Nazarene college is a strange place, very old testament sort of world. My daughter played softball on a youth team with mostly Nazarene teammates and it was a unique experience. They were very pleasant people, but totally submissive to the church. I would certainly think KU & Perkins would be royally pissed about this. It does seem like some senseless jerking around of a recruit.
