Yahoo! Partners with SB Nation

As all of you know, RCT is but a small part in something much bigger. SB Nation, as a whole, consists of well over 100 blogs, and today, it took a step up in the sports information world.

Just as the title says, news-conglomerate Yahoo! is teaming up with SB Nation. But, instead of attempting to find the right words to say as far as the details go,I'll just take it straight from the man who runs this whole thing, Jim Bankoff:

Today we want to welcome some new members to our flourishing communities. SB Nation and our friends at Yahoo are partnering to give Yahoo Sports audiences one click access to our sites and content.

...

Relevant pages of Yahoo Sports will now feature contextual links to specific SB Nation communities.  Many other pages of Yahoo Sports will feature SB Nation content and links. The great news is that more sports fans will be introduced to SB Nation sites.

If you want to see what it looks like, head on over to the Chiefs or Royals Yahoo! sites. It really is pretty awesome; it's an SB Nation, complete with logo, box-type-thing that links to content.

They are doling these out in phases, and college blogs (and other non-team-specific blogs) were left out of the initial phase. However, all MLB, NBA, NHL and NFL sites should be up-and-running, so go check it out if you wish.

From our point of view, here at RCT, little changes. Once our box pops up, there is sure to be a significant influx in traffic and, hopefully, readership and commenting. Now, we all know that not everyone who visits Yahoo! team pages likes to play nice, so I just ask all of you to try and not get into CAPS LOCK arguments, or anything, with the newcomers.

I expect little to change. In fact, nothing content-wise should change, just the place will grow some.

The readership the grow, the participation will grow, and the awesomeness will grow.

Hopefully, at least.

Code of Conduct,

You mean there are going to be rules around here? Uhoh.

Nice knowing ya KC.

I just got back from your mom's basement.

Maybe there will be a grandfather clause for you all...

that have been here since before the switch.

Yeah.

I just edited it out, because I changed my mind on the time-and-place, but the plan is to institute a Code of Conduct.

It’s really simple stuff. Profanity doesn’t bother me, although it has to be in good taste, and all of that stuff.

Just stuff that, really, you all have already followed. Just want to make sure no personal attacks, no bigotry, no racism, that sort of stuff.

Yeah, I'm just giving KC some hell.

Although I do have one question now, is profanity ever in “good taste”?

I just got back from your mom's basement.

You know what I mean.

I don’t want tirades where it’s used excessively, but if you use it in the middle of a sentence as part of your point, no big deal here.

The main thing is don’t use it for namecalling purposes. That’s the key, as that is something that is just always out of line.

Plus, that’s delving into message board talk. We don’t want any of that here.

Pretty cool stuff...just as a frame of reference...

we’ve gone from 199 visits in February 2008 to what will finish at over 12,000 visits in February 2009. We’ve kept the community feel to it and fully hope to do the same going forward.

It’s pretty neat to be on the ground level of this and hopefully you all feel the same way…there is certainly a special place at RCT for those that have been here from the beginning of the growth. Shout out to…the guys that have really stepped this thing up to a new level lately and you know who you are, most of you were at the OGT last night.

…I think I speak for RockChalk as well when I say you all have made writing a heck of a lot easier to get excited for lately with your comments, discussion and involvement.

We have definitely grown a bunch.

But SiteMeter was broken last February and March. We weren’t THAT bad back then, Denver.

No, we probably pulled in around 150ish hits a day. Nothing special, nothing awesome, and not nearly what we’re hitting now.

Yeah, this place has grown hella fast. And we’ve had plenty more actual hits than the 130,000 it says, closer to something like 150,000. Still, our growth has been quite incredible.

by rockchalk on Feb 24, 2009 9:13 PM CST up reply actions

I wondered about that...it certainly looked strange to me

I found it hard to believe that during such an incredible basketball season that we were having last year we wouldn’t be able to pull more than 199…my bad…

At least something's growing in this economy.

Perhaps our site can power the U.S. out of it’s economic doldrums!(Don’t really know what that last word means, but it seemed oddly appropriate)

For every STFU, Fran!!!

we need to get Bill Gates to donate $5 to the bailout package.

no we don't.

He can figure it out where his money should go better than the people in D.C.
