So...

If Texas loses today, what happens? TCU, Cincy, or SEC rematch for the title?

Cincy isn't holding up their end of the deal right now.

Add in a punt that was just blocked and Pitt is taking over at the 3.

I’ve got to think TCU would end up in the game, there’d be all sorts of problems if they were skipped over for a 1-loss team that was looking for a rematch. If “the season is a play-off”, a team that lost in the last week should be eliminated.

I used to work with an old man that told me- Son, every workplace has a dumbass. If you don't have one where you work, then I'm afraid you're it.

by Warden11 on Dec 5, 2009 12:27 PM CST up reply actions

Here’s what I think should happen in that scenario:

Championship: SEC #1 / TCU
Rose: Oregon / Ohio State
Sugar: SEC #2 / Cincy
Fiesta: Nebraska / Boise
Orange: GT / Texas

But I have no idea if that would happen- I could see the Fiesta taking Iowa or Pitt over Boise, maybe Cincy jumping TCU, who knows???

So today I decided to go with honey teriyaki wings with that asian flavor kick. Decided to throw some egg rolls in with it and make some potstuckers. So asian fingerfoods. It’s gonna be gooooooooooooooood. Unstoppable. Best chef in the world is me.

I made pumpkin break two nights ago which is also amazing. Unstoppable.

Also they gave big kudos to Lew for his handling of the situation, said he’s a great administrator…handled it appropriately and will make a good hire.

Florida most dominant program?

So if Florida beats Alabama and then wins the NC (06,08,09Ws), that clearly puts them up with Nebraska (93L, 94,95,97Ws) as the most dominant program over a decade.

But best teams ever?

I think the 95 Huskers would beat them, personally.

by PDXJayhawk on Dec 5, 2009 3:08 PM CST reply actions

I was in a discussion the other day regarding Tommy Frazier v Tebow...

I was of the opinion that had Touchdown Tommy been in an Urban Meyer offense he would have been better than Tebow and Tebow wouldn’t have been nearly the player that Tommy was in the Husker offense of the 90’s.

95-96 championship game

I still have a VHS of the 1996 Fiesta Bowl when Nebraska destroyed Florida and Tommy had that run where 8 of the 11 Florida players tried to tackle him and couldn’t.

Tebow definitely has better weapons around him

That Huskers team absolutely destroyed people in the trenches, but they didn’t have a bunch of guys with sub- 4.3 speed running routes or taking handoffs like Florida does. Think about how many passing yards Tebow racks up with easy little dump offs that guys end up taking to the house themselves. I don’t remember Frazier having that luxury.

Do they really deserve a BCS game? Best win all year was against a very overrated LSU, and second-best win was by 3 over an average Arkansas at home with some dubious refereeing. If Texas is also upset under this scenario, do they both deserve to go?

Regardless I think Bama will win

FLorida’s offense has been poo stink against good teams all year. As I write this they look absolutely aweful on their first possession.

Don’t see the gators scoring many points. Their offense (especially in big games) has no creativity, they run the same play over and over (Tebow and a RB running strait into the line for some reason that nets about 2 yards tops).

Great start for Bama

bad start for Tebow haters. You just know he’s going to make an EPIC speech at halftime that people will fawn over for years and UF will make a plaque of and hang inside his soon-to-be-retired locker and they’re going to come back and dominate the second half.

nothing on my end...

players are pretty much in the dark on this and players and recruits are my primary sources on things.

From the sound of things most of the names you are hearing out there are very much in the mix and very realistic options. Reading Missouri and Kansas State boards it appears they’d like to believe that our job is so undesirable that we couldn’t possibly nail down a legitimate candidate. That doesn’t appear to be true. Some of the names thrown around by the slant as VERY real are….

Fulmer
Harbaugh
Tubberville
Fedora
Gill
Nolan Cromwell

prefer not to see Cromwell as HC

Part of me would love to see what Gill could do with Kale Pick.

Other than that, I couldn’t happier with that list. Like I said on the Oread Boom Kings thread, I feel like we need a coach with a chip on his shoulder, someone who looks at Bill Self and says, “I can match that success, and here’s how.”

I think Harbaugh fits that bill pretty well. And I think that, after Fulmer and Tubberville’s departures from UT and Auburn, they might bring that same attitude. I think Tubberville might over Fulmer.

Fedora (and Hamlin, if he’s no longer on the list) don’t really give me that feeling.

by PDXJayhawk on Dec 5, 2009 3:52 PM CST up reply actions

see I would like Fedora and from all accounts...

he is VERY interested. I also like the Harbaugh thought and in regards to KG’s stepping stone post…I guess I view that like a basketball one and done player.

Usually if a coach moves on to bigger and better…it means you’ve been successful. Just like with a one and done…if they truly are one and done, your team has typically been better because of them. Probably not a great comparison, but it’s how I’m justifying the Harbaugh possibility at the moment.

Agree on Tubberville and Fulmer as well…intriguing possibilities for sure.

by Owen on Dec 5, 2009 3:56 PM CST up reply actions

with you on the stepping stone...

So Harbaugh comes here for three or four years, next year we’re 6-6, and pick up a game or two each season after that, maybe beat OU or UT once in year 3 or 4, RichRod gets fired and Harbaugh bolts…

…I can live with that.

And in three or four years, if we’re doing that well (8 to 10 wins in seasons 3 and 4 with a deep bench and good recruits), who doesn’t want that job (other than the obvious OU, UT, LSU, UF, etc. premier coaches)?

by PDXJayhawk on Dec 5, 2009 4:01 PM CST up reply actions

yep...agree...

obviously not the ideal, you’d like to get the program to a position where the guy wouldn’t want to leave…but if he does the job should have increased in attractiveness as a result of the success.

He kinda reminds me of Pete Carrol- kind of a “rah rah” guy that works better on the college level. I bet he could be a pretty great recruiter, too- he has a pretty solid eye for talent, if the drafts for the Chiefs when he was calling the shots were any indication.

I’d be willing to give him a shot, I think. Kind of an “out of the box” selection.

First, I suppose it’s my duty to recommend against you driving.

Second, where do you live?

I’d say downtown presents some obvious opportunities. The Lodo area. “My Brothers Bar” is a personal favorite, Wynkoop, Falling Rock Taphouse, all good options…

good Irish bar called Scruffy Murphy’s and several others on the same block

Jacksons is a great sports bar and near the ball park, also close to Fado’s another solid Irish Bar.
