Lew Perkins schedules Football Press Conference for 4 PM today.

Will he stay or will he go?

Edit: Looks like most stations are reporting no meeting scheduled. Definitely sounds like something is in the works but perhaps today is not the day.

I've heard this multiple times as well.

I used to work with an old man that told me. Son, every workplace has a dumbass, if you don't have one where you work, then I'm afraid you're it.

If that happens imma throw up….go from rumors of Harbaugh to Fulmer….blehhh

yeah

Id love me some Harbaugh but hed head to Michigan at the drop of a hat.

Fulmer

does have a a 152-52 record in the SEC including a NC win in’98

by bkmhoxx on Dec 3, 2009 12:30 PM CST up reply actions

Then we hope

that Rich Rod gets his stuff together at Michigan

by jco8394 on Dec 3, 2009 1:08 PM CST up reply actions

What's wrong with Fulmer?

The guy has won a National Championship, for Chrissakes. He went 152-52 in the SEC! Also has some Kansas ties- coached at Wichita State for 5 years. Known as an excellent recruiter- got Peyton Manning to break away from his dad’s ties at Ole Miss- not too shabby.

There’s always the “stepping stone” issue, but he’s a Tennessee guy born and bred, and he won’t be getting a call from them any time soon.

true

Good points.

I also was a tad bit surprised when they let him go after such a great tenure and 1 bad year.

by bkmhoxx on Dec 3, 2009 12:38 PM CST up reply actions

At this point

the only question is what it’s going to cost KU. My guess is somewhere around $2 million. Probably no more than $3 million.

So...

We aren’t expecting the new coach to be announced at this presser, are we? Just simply that Mangino is toast?

RODD TEESING, my arch-nemesis! Give us back our TODD, you rapscallion!

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Dec 3, 2009 12:33 PM CST reply actions

hard to say

As long as this has taken, KU has had time to search, especially if it is indeed Fulmer.
But I would expect this to be more about the findings of the investigation and about the firing of Mangino.

Nothing would surprise me at this point.

by bkmhoxx on Dec 3, 2009 12:37 PM CST up reply actions

I expect a press conference

stating only that Mark Mangino and the KAI have reached a deal to buyout the rest of his contract.

As such, Mark Mangino is no longer coach of the University of Kansas football team.

Sawin' wood - damn, blade just broke

by Rivethead on Dec 3, 2009 1:15 PM CST up reply actions

I just read my paper today

And Jordan Rodgers is not coming on his visit. He didn’t state a reason why, but it probably has to do with Mangino. A couple of weeks ago when the allegations came out, he said he was still going. I’m thinking he knows something about the situation that we don’t; yet.

Insanity is just a state of mind.

by giants9107 on Dec 3, 2009 1:21 PM CST reply actions

tidbits

take it for what its worth.

Randy Edsall. UCONN

and we have an empty Mangino office and he is 6.6 million richer.

by bkmhoxx on Dec 3, 2009 1:33 PM CST reply actions

yeah

Im a baseball guy.
I have no clue about Edsall’s background or strengths.

by bkmhoxx on Dec 3, 2009 1:47 PM CST up reply actions

This would really make me question Lew

The guy has no Texas ties and for all I know has no ties to the area….He’s a good coach but it just seems like a dumb hire

by jco8394 on Dec 3, 2009 1:50 PM CST up reply actions

I dont think its bad.

Young, successful, high energy guy.
Thats what i thought we would go with so the Fulmer idea surprised me.

by bkmhoxx on Dec 3, 2009 1:55 PM CST up reply actions

I don't know

He’s 52….I guess that’s young?

Thanks for posting this

We’d be hiring a skinnier Mangino, record wise. With no midwestern or recruiting ties to texas.

We don’t need guys to turn around a nonexistant program, we need someone to help a middle tier program get more consistent and possibly take it to the next step

by KU Grad 08 on Dec 3, 2009 2:20 PM CST up reply actions

I'd question the hell out of Lew because Mangino is walking away 6.6 m richer!

press conference thoughts

If KU follows its normal protocol, it is too late in the day to now schedule a 4:00 p.m. press conference. Normally, any announcement this late in the day would be for scheduling a Friday morning press conference. If a press conference is not scheduled for tomorrow morning, then I do not believe there will be a press conference later in the day on Friday because it is my understanding that Lew Perkins is leaving for meetings in NY tomorrow.
Please note the above use of the terms “normal” and “normally”.

by kansas oats on Dec 3, 2009 2:09 PM CST reply actions

that just gives Lew a chance to be

conspicuously absent. Marchiony always does the dirty work anyway…

Questions

1. Wasn’t Briscoe supposed to announce his decision today? Or am I way off? Could he be delaying to see how this all plays out?

2. Edsall has gone through an extremely emotional year with the on-campus murder of one of his players. Dunno if anyone saw his interview after the win over ND, but he was crying and genuinely moved by the experience. Anybody else have a hard time believing he’ll bolt right after the season after going through that? Even if he wants to go on to a “bigger” job eventually, how could the timing be right this year?

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Dec 3, 2009 2:23 PM CST via mobile reply actions

I think point number 2 is a pretty solid one.

As far as Briscoe, yeah, he may be laying low for now, but in the end, I bet he goes.

by play4'ships on Dec 3, 2009 2:26 PM CST up reply actions

great point.

Maybe Edsall is just at the top of their wish list.
I dunno.

by bkmhoxx on Dec 3, 2009 2:32 PM CST up reply actions

Briscoe thing looks to be delayed for obvious reasons

by Owen Kemp on Dec 3, 2009 2:51 PM CST up reply actions

Also, I heard Notre Dame is interested in him...

…and as much as we all like to question how that program is considered “prime,” I’d be closer to the world he knows.

But then, that might be a bit too big of a slap in the face to UConn considering they beat them this year. I dunno.

I don't know, I like to think that things started out initially with good intentions, but then we just loused it up. Kind of like intelligence. We have this glorious thing that allowed us to survive for millenia and now we use it to write porn film plots involving pterodactyls. Talk about wasting the gift.

580AM is saying theres no press conference.

The guy on the air — Bruce Steinbrok — has connections rather high up in the KU Athletics department and has spoken with three seperate people, including one who would be directly involved in actually setting up the press conference, and there is NO PRESS CONFERENCE today.

by bkmhoxx on Dec 3, 2009 4:18 PM CST up reply actions

I'm making you the linebacker's coach

Your job is too teach them how to play D1 linebacker and to get faster. Oh and you need to teach them to tackle while you are at it.

Get to work. Then you may have your beer and a pizza (their pizza is soooooo good)

by KU Grad 08 on Dec 3, 2009 4:20 PM CST up reply actions

not likely...

my defenses are too good to practice…that would only be wasting my time and energy as well as exposing my secrets. I would have Lew tear up the practice fields and replace them with a lazy river and a waterslide…because I won’t be needing them.

Also, when I recruit all commitments are made prior to signing day and I sit back and relax. Really it’s a great thing, I don’t understand why people act like being a college coach is so hard : )

but

it all paid off with the sweet lefty

by bkmhoxx on Dec 3, 2009 3:50 PM CST up reply actions

Mangino drama was worse IMO

I had a deep down feeling we’d land X all along and he was a player, it wasn’t changing the ship of leadership (get it, leader-SHIP eh eh?) of an entire program.

I’d say the stupid rumors of Self bolting for Okie State after we won the title were worse than Xgate

by KU Grad 08 on Dec 3, 2009 4:13 PM CST up reply actions

no way...

X gate had three separate flare ups over the course of a year. It started in October with his initial commitment. Then flared up again in April/May…and we even had the whole June deal where he wasn’t showing up for summer school. Xavier was nearly a year long crisis for Kansas fans.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

by Owen Kemp on Dec 3, 2009 4:16 PM CST up reply actions

Xgate was longer with more flarups

But the overall ramifications for Manginogate or more longterm and program shaping. A coach > a player.

When X wins MVP in the tourny on our way to the title then your argument shall hold more merit :)
