I think Gill will have a chance to get in Bolton's door again...
remember he knows Jonathan Wilson and in our interview with Bolton earlier this year he said Wilson’s mother was a mentor to him. If Wilson left campus after his individual meeting with Gill feeling positive, which he did, you can bet he’s probably going to be doing a little subtle recruiting over the christmas break during the dead period.
I say before this is all said and done Bolton speaks with Gill/maybe Long and we could see him a Jayhawk yet. Not surprised he’s looking, but he may want to consider that Zook is likely gonzo after next season and then you’re stuck being a guinea pig there as well.

As far as Bowen to K-State...
I know you aren’t a believe in him Labba, but that one would sting a little bit in terms of recruiting. Bowen would give K-State a solid KC area recruiter.

Nah -
actually I was a little miffed about the KSU rumor simply BECAUSE of his recruiting; and to be clear, I like Bowen. He’s a KU guy through and through plus he’s proven to be an outstanding recruiter and a wonderful ambassador for our school. I just felt that he was in over his head at the DC position.
Also – thanks for fixing my little typo…I posted this way to late at night, I’m feeling my late night now for sure, I’m not 22 anymore…

First the haymaker, then the uppercut.
Zach Bolton was my favorite recruit. It’s so hard to recruit talented offensive linemen.
Then Bowen possibly going to KSU………
When do we start hearing the good news about the suprise recruits that Gill/Long/Torbush are bringing with them?
There simply is no substitute for experience.
Here’s one for you…Damon Williams is a DT recruit that was in town on a visit this weekend. He’s been to Texas Tech, Oklahoma and now Kansas. Believe he also plans on visiting Arkansas.
Anyway, I spoke to Jeremiah Edwards who was on a visit as well this weekend. There was Edwards, Arps, Mundine, Ray Mitchell(who committed), James Sims and Damon Williams. Edwards said that all the commits are solid, great news on Sims because this was somewhat of an unknown as Beaty was a big reason he came. Edwards also said he felt Kansas had a VERY good chance of getting Williams. Edwards was on him all weekend telling him how they could both come in and anchor the defensive line together for the Jayhawks.
I think both Mitchell and Williams would be positive signs. Mitchell has been reported at 4.4 speed which would certainly fit into Gill’s plan to recruit speed. Williams is 6’4" 300 and looks like his frame could really be developed.

As talented as Bolton is...
…if he’s going to have that kind of attitude, I don’t know that we really need him. I want us to have players who can adapt to circumstances that come before them (i.e. Kerry Meier).
I don't know, I like to think that things started out initially with good intentions, but then we just loused it up. Kind of like intelligence. We have this glorious thing that allowed us to survive for millenia and now we use it to write porn film plots involving pterodactyls. Talk about wasting the gift.

agree to a point
Kerry Meiers don’t come around very often…

Point taken
But also, just because he doesn’t feel like he can be a Kerry Meier, doesn’t mean he has to bash the new system by conveying the perspective that new recruits will be “guinea pigs.” That’s just a character flaw on his part.
This is worst than the time I took off my top and got killed by Greg Kinnear.

yeah -
the guinea pig thing did throw me a bit. Sortuva strange thing to say. Especially considering what Denver mentioned about Zook being on the hotseat.

I’d guess it’s something he picked up from a recruiting coach or something. I’m sure there are a lot of programs selling against Kansas pointing to the new staff and being the “guinea pig” for the program.

of course I'll be interested to see how that plays out when...
Reggie Mitchell is named our recruiting coordinator? He’s Illinois at the moment but it’s been rumored he’ll be one of the staff members added soon.

It's not a surprise if we lose a few recruits
but Bolton’s reasoning is a bit funky. Zook is very much on the hot seat, and was almost canned this year. Not the right coach to pick if you’re looking for a stable environment. :)

Even if Zook doesn't leave, Illinois BLOWS!
Anybody going there is going to be a guinea pig for just how bad a Big Ten team can actually get.
"Here are our top priorities: recruit, beat Missouri, recruit, win the North, recruit, win the Big 12, and in most cases if you win the Big 12 then you're playing for a National Championship. And then we're going to recruit."
