KU Sells 7,600 Football Season Tickets for 2010 in 24 Hours
Well, doesn't look like the Mangino uncertainty is slowing down the support for 2010. This is good news regardless of where you stand on the issue, it's good to see the fan support is still stepping up.
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Kansas football fans set a single-day record purchasing 7,600 season tickets for the 2010 season Monday. Kansas Athletics made 2010 season tickets available online at kuathletics.com for the first time Monday morning.
"This was the most successful one-day sales event in the history of Kansas Athletics," KU Athletics Director Lew Perkins said. "This shows the passion that Kansas fans have for KU Football. We are very fortunate to have the terrific, supportive fans that we have at KU."

Wow!
That’s ridiculous. And awesome. I really wonder what this means, if anything, for Mangino. There was another pretty damning report in the Lawrence paper today (here), which certainly won’t help Mangino.
Operation 40-0 is a go. Proceed to target.
yep...
also had a supportive piece from Greg Cole’s perspective. Regardless, rumors are swirling that this draws to a close either today or tomorrow. I’m in conferences all day so if someone catches some breaking news…throw up a fanshot.
Also Bensa…looks like you had a bit of an accident. Hope all turns out ok.

Dude.
lots of pain. LOTS of pain. But now? Lots of pain-killers, so it’s all good. Pretty crappy timing, though, with Christmas concerts and law school finals all in the next 2 weeks. Oh well. We don’t often get to choose when to have accidents.

I was a little surprised...
keep in mind though that there was extra incentive in terms of seating at football AND basketball that was tied to this one day sale. The real test will be as we move into the folks that aren’t buying mass amounts of football tickets to keep their standing in basketball seats.

Excellent point!
And will these basketball fans really show up and sit in thier football seats…..or will they sell them to other team’s fans.
Sawin' wood - damn, blade just broke
eh...I know three...
that bought 20 or so tickets each to help with their bball seats. They go to every football game and don’t sell to opposing fans. Typically give them to friends, business partners, family…these are small town guys and they support the football team even though they do it for the bball benefit.
Not saying they are all like that, but I do think those who choose to buy the season tickets and take advantage of the point incentive are typically bought into KU athletics and support the team. Maybe I’m overly optimistic.

Sweet Lew
Pulls it off yet again. It’s so awesome having the best athletic director in the country on your side. Anybody see that the Governor of Maryland basically forced UMD to keep Friedgren, since the state didn’t want to be paying for two football coaches at once? It’s great that KU doesn’t have to worry about crap like that since we can afford to pay our coaches on our own. Plus, it allows that state money to be spent on much more important things.
In this economic climate, I have a hard time believing people are dumping rolls of cash into football seats they don’t want just to move up a couple of rows closer to the basketball court. I think what we’ve seen instead is the boom of a really great tailgating scene that makes for a fun Saturday afternoon, even if the on-field product isn’t the greatest.
Keep on keepin’ on, Mr. Perkins!

Great to see
this and the great turnout for the Border War game gives me hope that the fanbase has gotten a taste of how great successful football can be and is here to stay.

Oread Boom Kings news
Enjoy the game tonight and expect to hear some news from the athletic department today, or at the very latest by tomorrow. You may not hear the second part of that news for about a week, but rest assured that it’s being handled.

deceiving numbers?
I do not know how to take this news. Good or bad. It sounds good on the surface and then my “spin meter” tells me to delve a little deeper. For example, up to 20 priority points PER SEASON TICKET PURCHASED was the offer to purchase 2010 football season tickets yesterday between certain hours. As we all know these additional priority points also apply to the same point total used for basketball seating priority. A football or basketball season ticket holder who did not take advantage of this offer really missed the boat. 20 priority points is equivalent to a $2,000.00 cash contribution to the WEF. Incredible value for the buck for KU sports fans. In this day and age where virtually everyone has a credit card, there are not many valid excuses for not taking advantage of this offer and buying football season ticket yesterday if that person intended on buying 2010 season football tickets. And…as mentioned above, a basketball season ticket holder missed the opportuntiy to rack up cheap points by purchasing football season tickets even if they do not actually intend to use them. I still cannot decide if 7,600 is laudable or cause for alarm given the facts. Don’t shoot me. I am a WEF member and a holder of both KU footbal and basketball season tickets. I just hate “spin”.
Interesting analysis
I like the way you think.
Now you have me wondering too.

welcome Oats...
and like Rivet…I think your theory definitely holds water.
Also great to see a bonafide season ticket holder amongst us saps living across the country who miss out on the in person show.

thank you
I have really enjoyed reading the content of this site since I first learned of it at the beginning of the football season this year. I will try to add my thoughts occasionally when time and discretion permit.
Keep up the great work.
