Oh goodness - hmm where to start...
First off, welcome to RCT!
As for Whithey – I wouldn’t be surprised to see him pick up some slop minutes towards the end of the game. I doubt we’ll see him contribute to a large extent. Cole went through the same thing.
And basketball recruiting…right now we’re talking football. Afterall, KU IS a football school.
Tyshawn Taylor has actually improved in terms of ball handling Discussed Here I would expect him to step into Sherron’s size 9’s.
Also, punctuation is a good thing. : )

Welcome indeed...
While we certainly don’t require a “Strunk and White Elements of Style” level of writing here on RCT, we do (and by we, I mean Labba and I) encourage an occasional grammar or spell check.
That said, regarding Withey, HCBS has indicated that, since he’s been nicked up with a knee injury, he’s probably not yet 100%. I wouldn’t expect much from him early on, and I suspect he won’t play in the Michigan game at all unless KU breaks the game open. Coach Self has said many times that he still doesn’t know what Withey can do because he’s never seen him play at the college level at full speed. From all accounts, the kid is an excellent shot-blocker, but has more of a face-up game than a back-to-the-basket game like Cole. Withey is an excellent shooter, by all accounts, and can extend out to the 3-point line (not that he’ll be doing much of that with the type of offense we run here). I’m looking forward to seeing him play, but I’m not expecting to see him much right away.
On B-ball recruiting, we’re still in the hunt for 3 different top-tier guards in the 2010 class, Brandon Knight, Josh Selby, and Doron Lamb (as far as I know, anyway). Selby and Knight are both point guards, so it’s unlikely we’ll land both of them. I’m sure HCBS is hoping to land one of them and then maybe add Lamb. We’re bringing in Royce Woolridge already, who’s an off-guard-type player who is probably a lot better than his ranking (borderline top-100 by most recruiting agencies) indicates. I haven’t seen us on the radar of any big guys in this class recently, so I suspect we’ll be seeing more of the Morri, T-Rob & Withey next year, which should be just fine.
As far as replacing Sherron, both this year when he’s out and in the future, I think we’re in better shape than you think we are. Obviously, for next year, if we can land Knight, he probably takes the PG reins from the get-go. Selby might as well, though I would be less certain of that. Certainly, with C.J. Henry, Tyshawn Taylor, and Elijah Johnson, we’ve got some very strong ball-handlers besides Sherron on this year’s team. Though the ball-handling probably isn’t as good from these three as it is with Sherron, all three are more than capable of spot duty at the point guard position. Bear in mind, of course, that HCBS recruits combo guards more often than pure point guards, and in his offensive system, the same player doesn’t always have to bring the ball up the floor and get us into the offense.
Again, welcome to RCT. Don’t be a stranger!
Operation 40-0 is a go. Proceed to target.

I has this on cricled pres-season as a tough one, but based on what has happend so far this season, this one could get ugly. Ken Pom has Michigan lower than LaSalle and Hofsta, and about them same as Oakland. Ditto for Sagarin. We might get to see a fair amount of Jeff.
I hope you're right
but this has trap game written all over it. Week of finals, limited practices in preparation for a very different style than we regularly see. They’ll be playing Beilein’s 1-3-1 zone, which we don’t see very often, and they’ve got some very athletic wing players that could give us some trouble. I’m not saying Operation 40-0 ends Saturday, but this could be a lot closer than people think, Kenpom’s ratings aside.
I do love Kenpom, though. A lot.

if they shoot their three well
they could be dangerous. But, given that they are 295th in 3 point percentage, I’m not too worried.
They also cant rebound.
Kenpom
I love the site too. It was really bizarre for me because I was using the site for a year before I realized it was created by Ken Pomeroy. Ken (Kenny then) was one of about 4 or 5 of us who skipped classes in High School, went to the library, checked out two TVs and watched both games all day during the tourney (back before CBS showed the 1st two rounds). ESPN picked up the “good” game and channel 50 showed the other. Good times. Sure beat studying for AP exams.
KenPom also struggles a little early in the season, as schedules even out
their rankings will be closer to reality.

Yeah but he had UCLA way low too
And they kept it close all game. We seem to struggle this year (so far) with the bigger named teams (memphis and UCLA) more so than smaller school teams that while good, have no answer for our size and athleticism in the post.

What type of ballhandling?
By the way, hi everyone, this is my first comment although I have been reading the blog for awhile.
Now to ball handling. I guess you just mean point guard because I view ball handling as a number of different things. First you have straight dribbling. I further divide this into to real benefits. 1. Beating the press. You can beat a press by either passing the ball out of the press or having a ball handler that can dribble through it. I think Collins is probably the only Jayhawk that can dribble through a press right now. But KU is such a good passing team that the only press we might face all year is MU. The second type of dribbling is the ability to beat a man. I think again that Collins is probably the best on the team at that by Taylor and Johnson show a lot of promise.
The Second type of ball handling (as I see it) is passing. Collins isn’t the teams best passer. Last year it was Morningstar and even Self recognizes this. He was talking the other day and said that Aldrich whould get more touches because Morningstar is coming back. The team is a good passing team and I don’t seem much difference between any of the guards other than Morningstar.
Lastly, I don’t think it will be much of an issue. Collins was on the 2007 team but didn’t start or monopolize the ball like he has the last two years despite being the teams best ball handler. I don’t think the team suffered any ill-effects and I think Johnson and Taylor project (ball handling wise) favorably to Chalmers and Robinson.
My sister knows more about basketball than you

definitely welcome
and I’d agree…ball handling isn’t a huge concern at the moment. We’ve got some guards that are plenty serviceable.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
Withey
I think I’ve discussed this before but I don’t really see any scenario where Whithey is anything but a mop up minutes type of guy at this point. We just have too much talent down low.
I’m hoping Whithey can have a nice career here and he’s certainly got a great center to learn from right now and an amazing coach in Danny Manning to learn from. Right now, he just needs to keep learning and stay healthy.
As for ball handling, I am in no way worried about that at all, we have some great guards that are very capable of handling pressure. Sherron of course, Tyshawn (needs to cut down on TO’s obviously), EJ, Tyrel, C.J. We’ll be fine.
Welcome to RCT.

I've heard that Withey
Can shoot the 3. Seems like a pretty dominant high low with him and Cole if that’s true, assuming he’s a decent entry passer.
