"I told him, ‘I’m still with you guys,’ " Terry said. "Even if (Mangino) were to get fired, I’m pretty sure that’s where I want to be at, depending on who the (new) coach is. If I’m OK with him, I’ll probably stay."

Terry went on to add...

that the status of Bowen and Beatty who recruited him wouldn’t be a major factor either. He said that’s the way college football works, you develop relationships but people move on.

It really sounds like Keeston wants to be a Jayhawk, he just needs this to be resolved and if there is a new head man…make sure they are on the same page.

Definitely some good news on the recruiting front.

hoorays.

can someone please talk to Geneo now?

Me no likey Clint Bowen.

Very good to hear...

but people have talked to Grissom. He’s committed as of now, but LSU has been granted permission to re-open talks with him.

by hiphopopotamus on Dec 1, 2009 11:16 AM CST up reply actions

Seems Grissom is kind of at point where...

he wants to stay with KU, but until everything is resolved he’s going to keep his options open and look around. I guess I feel like we’ll at least get a shot at him if a change is made.

Have we heard any rumblings on the recruiting trail

whether or not Moms and Dads are now reluctant to let their kids come to KU to be “abused” should Mangino stay?

Me no likey Clint Bowen.

by labbadabba on Dec 1, 2009 11:44 AM CST up reply actions

No, the moms and dads aren't worried now

They know all they have to do is go crying to Lew a he’ll start and internal investigation.

I understand your frustration on this Rivet...

but I don’t think this is as simple as a few parents crying wolf.

It doesn't matter.

I’m just frustrated by the precedent that has been set.

Whether or not Mangino is a (in the words of Mike Leach) “big, mean coach” is not the point anymore.

The precedent has been set. KU is now know as the school that did an internal investigation based on a poke in the chest and some mean things being said by the big, bad coach.

It’s just another uphill battle the new coach will have to deal with.

That’s what’s frustrating to me. This was handled very publicly and very poorly.

I understand this.

It really fucking sucks when your school gets dragged through the mud in a very public manner and you’re forced to make a change that you don’t really want to but are kind of forced to because too much has gotten out to turn back now.

Yeah. It sucks. A lot.

I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.

This isn't exactly getting a lot of national attention, IMO.

In fact, here in New York, I’ve had to inform several fellow Jayhawk alumni about this whole situation. As much as we would like to believe otherwise, KU football doesn’t make a very big blip on the national radar unless we’re having a once in a generation-type season.

Sure, it’s something for coaches to negatively recruit against us, but I’ve always assumed that recruiting is essentially a Wild West environment where literally anything goes.

And I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what kind of job this really is, and what kind of coach we can go find.

I dunno I must somewhat disagree

I’ve seen it on sportscenter at least 4 times being discussed and its been on college football whatever on espn a lot too. Can’t get more national than that when it comes to sports coverage.

by KU Grad 08 on Dec 1, 2009 11:35 PM CST up reply actions

and...

Every time I’ve seen it talked about, even former players say that the things that Mangino has been accused of saying are out of bounds. I haven’t heard one single defense of Mangino on ESPN. And, since I work from home, I have the TV on Sportscenter most of the day.

With the most recent news (physical evidence of 2nd degree burns on a player’s hands from Mangino forcing him to “bear crawl” across astroturf in August and then “threatening to burn his other hand” in a team meeting), the guy is toast. With cause. http://www2.kusports.com/news/2009/dec/02/ex-player-accuses-mangino-mistreatment/

Bring on Phil Fulmer?

Wow, first time I've heard that one.

I used to work with an old man that told me. Son, every workplace has a dumbass, if you don't have one where you work, then I'm afraid you're it.

I'd love to hear Mangino's side of this story

I doubt we do though.

I do find it odd that Kipp waited 6 years to bring this out. I mean, he could have waited until he graduated and then approached the university with a lawsuit. If the kid had any type of friendship or compasion for his fellow underclassmen teammates he would have done so to protect them.

I'm not surprised,

I can see him wanting to just get through it and move on with his life. He probably figured what good bringing it up could do, now he sees that it might be something that is pertinent to an investigation.

Plus it's tough to be the only one sticking your neck out.

Things like this people usually work within a pack mentality.

Once again though...

KUSports.com also has an article from Greg Cole a linebacker that played for both Terry Allen and Mark Mangino. I knew Greg personally and he was always very supportive of coach. Basically said when Terry Allen was around, they did whatever they wanted..skip practices, workouts, party…football was secondary. Coach Mangino changed that immediately.

I see no way he isn’t done here in the next day or two but fact remains we needed a guy like Mangino in the worst way when he got to Kansas.

It was one of the top 3 stories on MSN.com's home page

A story has to have a LOT of hits to move it to there.

There's plenty of attention.

It’s just that most NY Jayhawks haven’t a clue about football. I can tell just by looking at the crowds at the Pour House. Different set of people from fall to spring.

Me no likey Clint Bowen.

great news!!!

Read an interview from Justin Castor, kicker commit, and he had his in home with Jenoy Jackson and made it sound like mangino would be back. Guess all the assistants believe he’s going to be back. Also said that it would be resolved within the next 48 hours.

I'll be glad when this is over either way

If you were an assistant wouldn't you paint that picture too

I mean, chances are good if Mangino’s gone…..you’re gone too.
