Bradley Beal to Florida
Note: I'm a little surprised to be honest. I thought Beal would be a Jayhawk, but it looks like the Gators have landed a big fish and furthered their cause of returning to college basketballs upper tier. Tough blow, but Self has always come through in the past with a plan B.
Not sure if this presser had hats involved, but if it did it appears the curse is still alive and well when it comes to the Jayhawks and hats.
In what could prove to be the first of several announcements of interest to Kansas fans in the near future, Bradley Beal will announce his commitment and college choice this morning reportedly around 10am CST.
Beal is a five star junior shooting guard out of the St. Louis area. He's the number 7 ranked player in the class of 2011 and it's long been rumored that Kansas and Florida have led for his services.
Others have jumped into the mix including Mike Anderson and the Missouri Tigers and Bruce Weber and the Fighting Illini.
Will Bill Self be all smiles this morning? Hopefully we'll have some good news to discuss later on this morning with the next Jayhawk on board for the future.

Is this the official thread for this?
I might stay up for this…

yep...we'll make it an official thread...

ah yes...now I remember...
you like the night shift for some reason.

Well, lol
I’m anti-social, the pay is better, I don’t have any reason whatsoever to be up during the day, and it lets me get paid to play NES games on my laptop all night. Or try to memorize NHL salary cap situations, which is my other hobby.

KU BBall
always makes me happy! I will say I’m real nervous about that UCLA game, though…

I hope
our players don’t put too much stock in UCLA’s 2-4 record. The last thing we need is for UCLA to beat a No. 1 KU team in LA…again. I believe the last time we played them in LA, we were number 1, and they beat us then too, even though we were by far the better team. That was with Roy, though…maybe we’ll be okay.

Super creepy Bill picture has failed.
We must get Denver to banish it forever from our site. :)

Bradley Beal ...
Being a Chaminade grad and a ku fan, I couldn’t be happier. Worlds are colliding together.
What if he commits to Florida?
Or even worse, Missouri?

Glad I bailed.
I totally called him going to Florida. Weak.

I don't think there is...
an actual presser…believe he’s just making the commitment to the school and contacting a few recruiting sites to spread the word from there. I like our chances on this one, always have and still do. His last “visit” was to the KU v Memphis game…sitting behind the KU bench in his hometown.

I hope you're right
he’d be a great get, from what I hear.
I have to agree on the smiling HCBS photo, btw. Kinda creepy.

I may have been wrong...
Bensa…here’s a link that was posted by “The Shiver” we’ll see if it’s for real or not in about 40 iminutes I suppose.

So, how will the news come out if there is no presser?

Link doesn't seem to be up yet, Denver
We’ll have to find out the old-fashioned way, I guess. Damned impatience!

not real sure what the deal is with that link...
Like I said, I wasn’t sure how legitimate it was.

had some personal stuff pop up so nothing on the web it looks like.

As long as there's no presser,
it’s a lock.
I might have to make a trip to STL sometime this year for like a holiday tourney or something that he’ll be in back to back days or something and check out his game.

Always tough to compete with weather like that. Plus, much less competition for minutes, and much less pressure at a football school. Too bad though- he looks like your prototypical Bill Self combo guard.

exactly what I saw on a couple videos of him
He’ll be a good one, for sure. Nice pick-up for Billy Donovan. Sucks to lose a “local” kid like that.

Question is...what presser is next...
Mangino Ouster?
Briscoe to the NFL?
and then if Mangino is gone, presser for the new guy?
can we please get some positive vibes going. Throwing 60 point beatdowns on the little sisters of the poor in basketball isn’t cutting it for me right now.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
Here's how I look at it.
We had a year and a half run with a BCS bowl victory, National Title, another bowl win, not to mention the game at Arrowhead least year, then a nice run with a young team to the Sweet 16. We had it REALLY damn good for a while. We all said how we were just waiting for the high to end and come down a bit. Well, we have – football/basketball fights, football season, losing recruits. If losing a few top recruits is as bad as it gets, we got a lot to be thankful for and I, for one, won’t bitch about it. Too much.

agreed...
and I’m not overly down and out about Beal to be perfectly honest. He would have been great but Self can recruit…we’ll find others.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
What are the odds
we strike out on all three of Knight, Selby and Lamb this year?
I’d say we end up with at least one of them, right? At least a point guard to replace Collins, I would think.
Operation 40-0 is a go. Proceed to target.
maybe...
we have a very deep team though and I don’t think I’d have to argue that with anyone. That said, we may miss on all the big time players this year because they just don’t see the playing time they do elsewhere or the ability to make a big enough impact to jump to the NBA in a one and done scenario.
Hopefully Xavier has a banner season, we win a national title and all those misconceptions are put to rest. If Self can win another and be able to show a recruit…“hey if you’re good enough, we aren’t standing in your way no matter how deep our team is” it’s going to be tough to stop him.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
You may be right
Certainly our depth may be intimidating to a recruit. I just think that, for Knight or Selby, it should be a really easy decision for one of them. Collins is leaving. He’s our only pure point guard (or as pure as one can be in HCBS’s system). Either one of them will likely come in and take over many of his minutes, Knight especially.
Besides, after this year, HCBS will be able to say that he’s put 8 or 9 players into the NBA in 3 years, which is pretty incredible when you think about it. What other school can say that? Sure, only one of them will (likely) have been a one and done, but if the goal is to get there, it shouldn’t matter that much if it’s after one year or after two or three. But that’s just me, I guess.
Operation 40-0 is a go. Proceed to target.
This seems a bit inconsequential
since he can’t sign a binding LOI for almost another year. Which is about the equivalent of 13 years when we’re talking about a high schooler.
I would have liked for him to announce for KU, but you’d still have to wait 11 months to make it official. And as someone previously mentioned, it might cost us someone who would be available next year instead of 2011.

absolutely still time for a change...
but I’m kind of doubting it with Beal. Doesn’t strike me as one who will switch and it’s far less common in basketball to decommit than it is in football. Hope I’m wrong though.
