Q. How do you think Nick played today? Give us a little background on that?
COACH LEACH: I thought Nick played really well. I never had the opportunity to meet a guy named Nick Reid who was a linebacker for Kansas. And I always felt like he personified what a football player is and what a football player should be. I'd actually like to have a picture of Nick Reed.
But anyway. We decided as Potts was going through his tough times, we decided all of our players, we'd like them to be more like Nick and led by Nick would be even better. We figured it wouldn't hurt us to have a Nick, so now we do.

Great Find
I have no idea of what to think of this, other than Leech is Awesome.
There is no coincidence in my opinion
Mike Leach just subtly and publicly gave Lew Perkins and the KUAC the middle finger.
Because, let’s face it: not only is this bad for his buddy Mark Mangino, but this is bad for the Big 12 and football in general.
I can hear it now (down in the SEC country): “yeah them Big 12 boys get poked in the chest by their coach and they go crying to mommy and they launch internal investigations…..what a bunch fo !E$%!$ pu$$ies they got in that conference”. I wonder how many times that was repeated in Alabama and Florida this weekend?
Sawin' wood - damn, blade just broke
So?
Who gives a sh*t what a bunch of white trash guys think about us? If this really changes their perception of the entire Big 12, then they’re fools and we shouldn’t waste time thinking about them.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is Leach sticking up for his friend and former co-worker. But suggesting our situation somehow reflects poorly on Texas Tech is silly.
And you know damn well this wouldn’t be happening if all that had happened was a poke in the chest.

Those "white trash" guys nail "white trash" girls
And have kids that become 5 star recruits.
Sawin' wood - damn, blade just broke
And 18 years from now, they’ll still be using this to make their decision on what college to attend? Really?
We make the right hire, none of this will be remembered. At all. We don’t, and maybe we beat scrubs in our out of conference schedule and only pick up 1 or 2 wins in the Big 12. Hey, wait a second…

No. Those "white trash" parents have kids right now.
If you’re a 5 star recruit in SEC country right now, where would you want to play football? In the SEC or in the conference known for an internal investigation because a player got poked in the chest?

Oh, come on.
I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.

I'm with you Slam. Rivet, I think you make great comments
and I’m always interested in what you have to say, but nobody’s sleazier than the Sec.(Now that the old Sothwest Conference is dead). Kids have a lot of reasons for picking schools, but I don’t think anyone is shunning KU long term because we replace Mangino.

So OU or Texas is going to have to explain how this happened in their conference?
I used to work with an old man that told me. Son, every workplace has a dumbass, if you don't have one where you work, then I'm afraid you're it.
Barry Switzer was completely unaware of the machineguns his players had.

Ok
You guys don’t think an internal investigation because a player got poked in the chest by a footbal coach makes our conference look bad.
I do.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree on that.

I'd love to know why you think Texas or OU (two of the top 10 programs in the nation)
would feel an effect because of a school that is nearly irrelevant to them?

Shit happens in every single conference
and honestly, I think this is a pretty minor blip on the radar.
That said, I think enough stuff has come about the situation and Mangino’s “coaching style” that the origins of the story are irrelevant.
