"The notion that the university is conducting a review of Lew Perkins is false and completely unfounded. I am confident in the athletics director and his management team’s ability to administer our athletics program in the highly capable and professional manner for which they are known. The review of the football program is consistent with the process outlined in Coach Mark Mangino’s contract. I encourage everyone to wait until this process is completed before drawing any conclusions."

Huh?

I didn’t realize there was even a rumor about this going around?!? If she’s denying the existence of something that no one is claiming exists…is that a bad sign? What a mess.

BTW, that link just takes you to the RCT frontpage.

yeah it's not supposed to be a link...just a quote...

The media report came out last night by Jack Harry and also some guy over at NBC I believe. I think it’s pretty telling that the first sign of faulty reports against the AD and a statement is released. Nothing has come out defending Mangino to this point.

I'm actually torn myself as a fan...

I hate to see the guy getting hung out to dry. At the same time I’ve always known he’s tough to play for. Didn’t give it much thought because guys played hard for him and performed. I guess I just assumed he was hard to play for in the same way as many head coaches are.

Now we’ve got all these names coming out against him and also many coming out for him. Without knowing exactly what happened it’s very difficult to judge what should happen. In the interim I think coach has said the right things, players have said the right things and the most damning information on him is coming from less than credible sources.

Whatever happens it will be nice if we hear from players of higher standing in the program. Ultimately though, I think this is one of those deals where time will tell who was right or wrong. Make the right hire and win games, and Lew will look like he did the right thing. Fall off the map and destroy the program…well I sure hope that doesn’t happen but Lew is going to look awful bad.

No matter what I think Lew looks bad

All of this should have been handled behind closed doors. Now, I know you’ve alluded to the fact that maybe Lew had no choice but to blindside Mangino. And I agree with you.

But then that tells me that Lew did not diplomatically shield his coach to the best of his abilities. And that’s bad.

We’re the laughing stock of the nation right now and it did not need to be that way. If Bernadette forced Lew to go public then SHE is at fault.

Dammit. SOMEBODY is to blame for this turning into a media circus. I want heads on a pike and blood in the streets. Our players deserve better.

that's the bottom line...

the players do deserve better….my hope when this is all said and done is that they end up with better, whatever that means.
