As fun as Friday night was, the season basically starts tonight. A challenging opponent, on national television, capping off 24 consecutive hours of college basketball. A rematch of one of the best games of the decade, albeit with two entirely different squads facing each other.
Here is your Open Game Thread for the "Real Season Opener". It should be a dandy, and considering the game's in Saint Louis, should draw plenty of comments and stuff. Hopefully.
Even I'll be here, at least by tipoff, once Xavier is done depositing Bowling Green and I'm back home after yelling my lungs out in the student section. So you should be here too, and we can all yell our lungs out through keyboards and computer screens and the English language. It'll be a grand ol' time. I promise.
But seriously. This is going to be exciting as hell. I can't wait to see all of the new players. I can't wait to see the Morris twins, who will probably get too good by January to still be my favorite players (yeah, I'm kind of sad like that...Thomas Robinson?). I'm giddy with excitement at finally being able to watch the Kansas Jayhawks play some basketball. Even though they've already played 3 games, I haven't watched them. So this is basically like Christmas morning for me.

Raymar Morgan has always been overrated, injuries or not. With the loss of Suton, they’re lacking a 7’0"-type presence in the middle, and Suton also defended and executed pick-and-roll well.
Unless Summers turns into an elite sharpshooter and/or Delvin Roe becomes the shot-blocking, 5-star athlete player that Izzo hoped for before his micro-fracture surgery, I’m not sure I’m ready to put this team in the top two or three yet.
They’ve just been bending over promoting Gonzaga in this game, too. They’re still a team counting on a lot of young players, even though Bouldin has looked fantastic and so have some of the freshmen. The WCC isn’t going to produce a great team other than the Zags more than likely either, so what we deduct from these NC games might be the best look we get.

Xavier is insane. And I’m talking about the team, here. They looked incredible tonight. Jordan Crawford is everything as advertised. Xavier is one of the best-shooting teams in the country, at least based on whats happened so far.
Xavier is going to be nasty, I think. I mean, sure, I suppose I’m biased. But damn. They’re athletic as hell, can shoot at a ridiculous rate and have enough size to survive down low.

Most of the player interviews are private one on ones...
so not too much getting out. Practice was business as usual and truthfully the team seems to have pulled together a bit on this. They are genuinely focused on Texas from what I can tell.

Memphis has been the best defensive team in the country the last two years.
They have the same athletes that Calipari’s been recruiting.
I do agree, we probably aren’t the best team in the country right now. But we’re still young. We’re still pretty inexperienced.

i think it also might be a matter of guys adjusting to Xavier
especially with Sherron out, it’s kinda hard to figure out the offensive “pecking order” this early in the season. normally last year though, they’d make a concerted effort to feed Aldrich and that would stop the bleeding. that hasn’t happened as much tonight

We have all of one offensive play right now.
All we can do is just lob it up to the big guy down low, usually Cole but sometimes McMorris, and hope they can make a move or something.

I go to Syracuse. We lost to a D-II team in exhibition. Doomsayers all over the place. And we’ve done nothing but run train so far this season. It’s a learning experience. Can’t take anyone for granted.
