Thanks to Bensa for catching this early. I can't bump to the front page so I thought I'd throw a new fanshot up for discussion on the topic.

Live audio from the presser courtesy Jayhawkslant. Looks to be free content from the guys over at rivals.

I don’t understand why Perkins has played it like this. Why would he confirm a private meeting to the press if was looking to maintain a relationship with Mangino? If he had to do so because sources were going to leak anyways, why not wait until after Mangino’s weekly presser?

Really seems like Lew has sold Mark out here. Even if Mangino did something really bad, I don’t like how our AD has handled this. It’s quickly becoming a sideshow, with the Jayhawk “blogosphere” now going apesh*t about what has happened.

Perkins needs to come out NOW and do one of two things:

1. Confirm that Mangino is the head coach through at least the rest of this season.

2. Fire him immediately and come clean with what has happened.

I'd tend to agree with you here...

need to put this to bed quickly, one way or the other. Sounds like it may have been going on for a little while now though so it wouldn’t surprise me if he intends to.

If he's bringing in an independant

investigator it looks to me that he’s seeking to terminate with cause and will use the findings to justify not buying out the contract. Not good.

So…Bill Miller or Ed Warriner?

Me no likey Clint Bowen.

by labbadabba on Nov 17, 2009 2:06 PM CST up reply actions

I'd have to assume Warriner for the time being....

THAT’S if something happens.

Srsly?

Confirmed?

Me no likey Clint Bowen.

by labbadabba on Nov 17, 2009 2:36 PM CST up reply actions

They haven't come out and said anything...

but that looks to be the case.

For clarification, by “assistants deciding tonight,” I meant they’re deciding if Mangino will coach at Texas. And if they decide he shouldn’t, Warinner will be the guy to step in.

Where did you hear about an independant investigator?

Completely agree

Mightly Lew has handled this very poorly.

I guess we can kiss most of our 2010 recruits good bye. Can you imagine their cell phones today? Texts/calls from Stoops/Venebles, Hawkins, Briles, Pinkle, Pelinis, Grandpa Synder (assuming he knows how to text).

Big time, yes.

Operation 40-0 is a go. Proceed to target.

Yes.

Bensa’s new sig is dead on.

by hunter s. royal on Nov 17, 2009 2:44 PM CST up reply actions

I'm hearing

it was racist, as sad as that is. And if that IS the case, he’s gotta go. No way you can recruit when there are suspicions that the head coach is a racist.

Operation 40-0 is a go. Proceed to target.

by Bensa on Nov 17, 2009 2:31 PM CST up reply actions

Wouldn’t surprise me. You can almost see on the TV screen that this team isn’t playing for their coach. This would explain why.

That's what we do at Kansas, we WIN.

by Ghost of Mark Randall on Nov 17, 2009 2:36 PM CST up reply actions

The contact

came from him physically attacking a player. It’s not like he just bumped him in n argument.

by hiphopopotamus on Nov 17, 2009 2:36 PM CST up reply actions

I'm having a hard time buying that.

A 600lb old man physically attacking an 18-19 athlete in prime physical condition.

How the hell could he do that? It’d take him 5 minutes just to lift his arm up to throw a punch.

Seems to me that Lew is distancing himself (and/or the university) from the situation

I would guess he’s upset with Mangino, enough to let the heat be put on Mangino (rather than Lew) by making this (somewhat) public. Maybe he was already upset or maybe this “incident” is the cause, but either way, he’s not protecting his coach with the typical front office smokescreen/coachspeak like normal.

Agree.

Lew making this public is not an accident.

by hunter s. royal on Nov 17, 2009 2:45 PM CST up reply actions

So you're saying Lew is puposely making the KUAC look bad?

Seriously, NOTHING good can come of this. If these rumors are true, we’re watching the end of the KU football.

Sawin' wood

by Rivethead on Nov 17, 2009 4:12 PM CST up reply actions

my take is that Lew knows this is going to come out,

so it’s better to have Mangino take the fall solo than have himself/KU get too close to it

Blank

by benfunke on Nov 17, 2009 4:16 PM CST up reply actions

and that he doesn’t feel any strong reason to try to cover for Mangino, which hints at an unfavorable relationship between the two (at least from Lew’s perspective)

KUSports confirming Arist Wright brought the concerns to Lew

Overall I think the whole thing is just sad

Sad it happened how it happened, sad all around. This season just went from terrible to lets never speak of this ever again under penalty of torture.

by KU Grad 08 on Nov 17, 2009 4:59 PM CST reply actions

Interesting that

When asked if he felt there would be an investigation if the team was 5-1 and not 1-5 in league play he said No.

by KU Grad 08 on Nov 17, 2009 5:04 PM CST reply actions

If the racism charges are true...

…There’s only one thing for Lew to do. Get on a plane, go to Gainesville, and offer Charlie Strong anything he wants. Not next week- now. There’s a chance he’ll use us as a stepping-stone, but we’ve got to do it. He’s the best candidate available, IMO, and it would obviously help the PR situation- in the eyes of the media, but more importantly, in the eyes of the Jayhawk family, and in the eyes of recruits.
