Harrison Barnes, All-American basketball player and typical good guy, makes his decision today on which school he will be attending after college. Kansas is one of his options. I really, really want him. So if you have any Harrison Barnes-related thoughts or something, put them here.

His other options are Iowa State, Oklahoma, UCLA, North Carolina or Duke.

Choose Kansas, Harrison. Please?

Just don't pick UNC

Ditto on the really wanting him part

but I’m not particularly optimistic on this one. He’d be a great fit for KU, and would have a tremendous career here, but everything I’m reading says its down to UNC and Duke, with the edge to UNC for the moment.

That said, Barnes has played it really close to the vest, and anybody who says they know something is probably lying at this point.

It’s gonna be a great day for one program, though, that’s for sure.

It's rather ironic that people will actually have to pay money to see Michael Moore's new Anti-Capitalism film, don't you think?

what's the point?

We never win hat pressers anyway

But seriously, getting someone like him after getting X would just spoil us fans. Spoil away, Coach Self, spoil away…

Insanity is just a state of mind.

I've thrown up in the Denver airport

True story. Went to Arizona senior year of high school with the fam and got food poisoning for the trip back. Worst day ever.

I know that

the reaction of KU fans if (or more likely, when) we don’t get Barnes is going to be something like “well, we didn’t really need him anyway. We’re loaded next season too.” And that’s probably right. We honestly don’t need a program-changer like Barnes to be competitive on the national level. Then again, neither does UNC (Duke probably does, as they’ve underachieved for some time now).

I’m not saying I don’t hope the kid comes here. I do. He’d be great in a KU uniform, and would help the program a ton. I’m just saying that, if we don’t get him, let’s not all become suicidal because of it.

I'd say mixed

Some weather sites report rain, some just say cloudy and rain on sunday

by KU Grad 08 on Nov 13, 2009 10:28 AM CST up reply actions

damn...

I was hoping I could avoid having to lug around extra cold weather gear etc.

Seems like its not gonna rain

Yeah I'm just gonna rock jeans, t-shirt and a flees/ jacket.

I’ll have my car though so I can pack it with cold weather necessities like I’m Dwight Schrute.

Is there actually going to be an RCT get-together before the game?

I can’t go to the game, but I’d sure come and hang out for a bit beforehand…

It would be wonderful to meet you all.

by KU Grad 08 on Nov 13, 2009 10:35 AM CST up reply actions

I'd do my best to stop by and say hey...

after about 10am this morning though I won’t be around my computer. Maybe I can email one of you guys my cell phone number and you can text me if you come up with something.

I’m sure I’ll be at Louise’s a little either before or after and I do make a point of walking around the stadium a little beforehand too, just for the sake of taking it all in.

by Bensa on Nov 13, 2009 10:29 AM CST up reply actions

Honestly...

If Xavier ends up staying another year, Barnes would end up doing more harm than good IMO. Not enough minutes for them, Releford, and Little. Also, I don’t think HCBS redshirts Little this year if he thought he was getting Barnes- even if X leaves, Mario would still be in the exact same position (although maybe healthier).

I think the thing that bothers me about Barnes is this implication he seems to give that KU isn’t strong enough academically for him. Nothing angers me more than academic elitism. I’m sure those 2 years of Leisure Studies at Duke are really going to change your life, Harrison

Also,

I agree with the “don’t pick UNC” sentiment. Their class is already looking stacked for next year… funny how Roy now recruits hard nation-wide and every year, isn’t it?

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Nov 13, 2009 11:49 AM CST reply actions

I think we got a huge break

when Roy took the UNC job and we were able to get NCHCBS. Williams seemed very burnt out here and I thought he was probably not far from retirement.

by hunter s. royal on Nov 13, 2009 1:07 PM CST up reply actions

Supposedly

he invited the Iowa State president to his announcement.

At least it’s not UNC (or Duke)

by fetch9 on Nov 13, 2009 12:38 PM CST reply actions

I suppose that's the best alternative

if he doesn’t pick us. I despise Duke and the phoniness of Coach K, and Roy doesn’t need to be stealing recruits from the midwest when he’s in the middle of a great recruiting area in Carolina. It would be a great boost to one of the have-nots of the North and perhaps make up slightly for the embarrassment of Big 12 North football this year.

source???

by Bensa on Nov 13, 2009 1:51 PM CST up reply actions

That would be kind of awesome, I think.

We certainly don’t need HB as much as Duke or ISU, but it would be great to see ISU win the lottery for once. Plus it’d be fun to play against them twice next year.

by knayte on Nov 13, 2009 2:11 PM CST up reply actions

I bet he picks Duke.

Which sucks, but at least it isn’t North Carolina.

I also wouldn’t be surprised by Iowa State.

by rockchalk on Nov 13, 2009 3:09 PM CST reply actions

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

I’m freaking out.

Where is everybody?

by rockchalk on Nov 13, 2009 3:10 PM CST reply actions

I'd call him articulate

but I think that might be racist.

by knayte on Nov 13, 2009 3:13 PM CST reply actions

He is really really smart.

And this speech is about as good as it gets as far as announcements go.

by rockchalk on Nov 13, 2009 3:14 PM CST up reply actions

Haha!

Political correctness rules unfortunately.

by hunter s. royal on Nov 13, 2009 3:14 PM CST up reply actions

hahahaha.

Skype?

That’s fragging awesome.

by rockchalk on Nov 13, 2009 3:15 PM CST reply actions

He better be careful.

The NCAA may rule him ineligible for inappropriate commercial endorsements. :)

by hunter s. royal on Nov 13, 2009 3:20 PM CST up reply actions

Dude.

Even if we don’t get him, this is like the greatest signing day thing of all time.

Ohmygosh.

by rockchalk on Nov 13, 2009 3:15 PM CST reply actions

Well that sucks.

Knew it wasn’t going to be us, but was really hoping it wasn’t UNC.

by knayte on Nov 13, 2009 3:17 PM CST reply actions

So UNC is going to be loaded next year.

But for now, I’m ready to get our undefeated season off to a good start tonight.

by knayte on Nov 13, 2009 3:31 PM CST reply actions

Guess he's not interested in learning how to play defense.

So long, Harrison! Good luck with the inevitable Iowa disappointment curse!
