Sorry for the delay. It's a pretty frickin' important game for us Jayhawks, as it makes one of our North matchups more important and one less so.

I'm personally cheering for Missouri, partially for selfish reasons. I am hopefully getting to go to the Arrowhead game, so I would love it if that decided the North. So, yeah.

I missed it because of Facebook chatting

(lollllll), but Nebraska’s special teams apparently suck and Missouri somehow has a 2-0 lead. Weird. I thought I was done with baseball for the day.

MIssouri

looks all right on defense. It helps that Zac Lee kind of, you know, sucks.

And yes, I’m fine with solo threading this all night. It’s like a journal.

What a game so far

Neither team can get anything done on offense.

I wonder if the conditions have anything to do with it?

Run a slow-developing play at one of the best DT in the nation. Great offensive gameplan!

4 yard pass on 3rd and 10

What is with this movement in football that says “We don’t need to get first downs when we can just as easily punt it away!”. It reminds me of giving outs away in baseball.

I remember Brad Smith

getting hammered in the head when he was a freshman and they were playing OU at Columbia. Two guys had to lead him off the field, and he looked completely lost. One play later he was back in. A friend of mine who was an MU fan was irate about that, because he’d clearly had a concussion, and Pinkel put him back on the field.

It's been pouring

and the ball looks slippery obviously, but the field seems fine. Conditions plus blundering by both QB’s.

Or a combination of the two plus some pretty terrible conditions?

One of the top prospects in baseball. Fred Lewis was actually decent as well. Out of all of your young outfielders, one will hopefully be a good starter, Schierholtz has good D and a cannon, if he can hit well enough.

by KTJ on Oct 8, 2009 10:28 PM CDT up reply actions

We're in pretty good shape.

Next year was supposed to be our big “Tada!” instead of this year, but that should be fun. Marquis will probably walk after this year (sweet deal) and we have some of our best players locked into very reasonable deals over the next couple of years.

Our biggest order of business should be letting Atkins walk away without even asking him to stay, continuing to find the right guys for the bullpen, and finding a taker for Hawpe. An outfield of Seth Smith, Dexter Fowler, and Carlos Gonzalez would be a pretty awesome show. Our biggest prospects coming up are frontline talent starters, so with Cook, U-Ball, and JDLR coming back, the final two spots should be up for grabs with a guy like Francis coming back and the young guys vying for rotation spots, we could be really good. Like, 95 win good.

This game reminds me of the 2005 KU/OU game at Arrowhead

sans the rain. KU D just dominated Adrian Peterson, had like 15+ tackles for loss, but were such limp dicks on offense.

by JayhawkTom on Oct 8, 2009 10:34 PM CDT reply actions

I was at that game

Painfull. Today’s KU team would have beaten that OU team by 14 at least. Our D shut them down, Gordon had a few picks. We botched a fake fieldgoal, threw a pick 6 on the opening drive, and had like 3 first downs the rest of the game. Ouch.

by KU Grad 08 on Oct 8, 2009 10:38 PM CDT up reply actions

If only..

KU would have realized sooner that Swanson was the answer at QB (or at least the closest thing KU had to an answer at QB in 2005), KU might have won that game. Then again, I’ve heard that Swanson didn’t show up ready to play that year.

If I recall, it was after the OU game that Nick Reid could no longer hold back his frustration with the KU offense. He basically said a lot of the things that the fans were thinking.

Look at NU's scheudle

I could easily see them going 6-2 (with losses only to KU and OU). That would mean KU would need to go 6-2 to win the North. I’m completely confident in KU going 6-2.

Mizzou, on the other hand, could win tonight and still lose 3 games (OSU, Texas and KU).

Okay, help me out, guys

I’d like your opinion on this:

You’re up one point. You score a touchdown. Now you’re up 7. Why don’t you go for 2 to get up 9 and make it a two possession game?

It's rather ironic that people will actually have to pay money to see Michael Moore's new Anti-Capitalism film, don't you think?

by Bensa on Oct 8, 2009 11:03 PM CDT reply actions

That's my thinking

I just think the positives outweigh the negatives. You can’t lose, because no team is going to go for two when they’re down 1 anyway. You can only win.

That damn chart, though. Erg.

by Bensa on Oct 8, 2009 11:06 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd say because this way...

you put your opponent in a position where they still have to score and get the 2pt to tie you….that’s not easy

by Owen Kemp on Oct 8, 2009 11:04 PM CDT up reply actions

Right, but if you don't make it they tie with a touchdown and a PAT

if you kick the extra point, not only do they have to score, they HAVE to make the two, just to tie. They stumble any were and you win.

yep...that's what I'm saying

by Owen Kemp on Oct 8, 2009 11:07 PM CDT up reply actions

But if you make it

They’ve got to do it twice! Maybe there’s a mathematical analysis to be done on this, but it seems to me that the benefits outweigh the potential liabilities.

by Bensa on Oct 8, 2009 11:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Sorry

but I disagree, by kicking the extra point you are forcing them to score twice (the 2 pt conversion being the 2nd) but if you don’t get it (a 45% chance) they only have to score once. You are over estimating the success rate of the 2 point conversion.

Honestly

it’s ABOUT time they threw a flag on the Nebraska DBs. They’ve been DRAPED all over the receivers all night.

It'd be funnier if it was the first

But alas, it is choice B. But your logic is sound. My girlfriend isn’t too knowledgeable, but she still likes to watch the games. Well, she kind of has to living with me, since its always on.

When KU isn’t involved, she roots for teams whose colors she likes (or roots against teams with “gross” colors).

North matchups

Normally, I’d agree with you on the matchups, but with Bryant becoming inelligible and OSU heading toward irrelevance once again, I’d say NU’s victory rebalances things. KU by far has the toughest schedule, with NU now being second, so it is good that mizzoo gets handicapped with a loss to balance things out a bit more right out of the gate.

KU vs. UT, OU, TT
NU vs. OU, TT, BU
MU vs. UT, OSU, BU

It stinks for BU (& KU) that Griffin so BU is that much less challenging for NU & MU. We could win all our North games, and still finish in second. We still need to sweep the North and take at least one from the South.
