Around SBN: College Football Preseason Top 25 Rankings

This is your Open Game Thread for all of the day's College Football. On Halloween! Sorry for being a deadbeat blog manager, but luckily Denver is the greatest co-manager in the history of the world. So yes. In any case, there are some good games on, most notably two absolute monsters tonight in USC-Oregon and Texas-Oklahoma State. Hopefully I can show up for awhile. And don't forget to show up to the Kansas-specific OGT, which will go up at 1:30 CST.

First!

Where the hell have you been man, college really getting to you that much?

My advice, put the books down for a weekend and party it up a little (if you haven’t already)

by I need more Esteban on Oct 31, 2009 11:07 AM CDT reply actions

No joke.

Take the amount of work assigned by professors (including readings and notes) and divide by 8. That’s about how much actual work you should be doing.

I used to work with an old man that told me. Son, every workplace has a dumbass, if you don't have one where you work, then I'm afraid you're it.

Missouri v CU is up...

I’m pretty sure that Colorado is going to disappoint me incredibly today. Maybe the 2 and a half feet of snow we got on Wed/Thursday will help fire people up.

Perhaps CU will play better today

to avert the threat of being bombarded by snowballs from their own fans. I think Hawkins might want to wear a hardhat. :)

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 12:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Well there is plenty of ammo in the stands...

and it’s pretty warm today so that means it’ll be packable snow….those things might become Iceballs even.

someone posed this question to me the other night

do we really want CU winning this game? I mean I know we kind of expect them to implode but they do have the tiebreaker on us….but then again, it is Missouri so I guess kind of a dumb question to post

by I need more Esteban on Oct 31, 2009 12:21 PM CDT up reply actions

It's a valid point...

but I’d still rather Mizzou get the 4th L on their record as soon as possible.

Too bad scoreless ties aren't possible anymore.

It will be interesting to see if MU can find any offense.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 12:24 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd just rather Mizzou not get on track...

they have enough talent and have played enough tough opponents that if they get a couple easy wins under their belt they might get on a role and gain some confidence.

CU is all over the board and I’m not sure they could ever rattle off a big stretch of W’s as inconsistent as they’ve been.

Nebraska up 10-0 on Baylor...

I’m surprised by the steep drop off in Waco after Griffin went down. I knew they’d fall off but they’re gone completely.

reminds me of some of the first KU teams I watched..

the Glen Mason era…of course at this point it’s just a rumor we’ll see if it’s true.

Looks like the Huskers have gone to Cody Green at QB...

offense is moving the ball a little better, hard to say if it’s Baylor or the Huskers

the injury to Griffin

really hurt us when it comes to the other North teams that play Baylor

by I need more Esteban on Oct 31, 2009 12:20 PM CDT up reply actions

it certainly didn't help...

and of course we get him next year which isn’t fun

NU blocked a punt and scored on BU's first possession.

I think getting ahead has taken some pressure off them.(Plus Baylor looks futile on offense)

Iowa trying to

F up their undefeated season again. They’ll probably pull it out barely in the 4th quarter once again

by I need more Esteban on Oct 31, 2009 12:28 PM CDT up reply actions

I never realized this but...

Iowa fans are sort of rubbing their success in the faces of Missouri. I guess those two schools have a small rivalry in terms of who is successful even though they never really play. I find it interesting though that pretty much every bordering state hates the Tigers…I have friends that went to Arkansas and they hate them too.

If CU wins today...

Boulder is going to be crazy…it’s homecoming, an 11am game, Halloween and their bringing back this old deal where they gather on their version of Mass Street and basically riot I believe. If all goes well it’s going to be bad news in Boulder.

Looks like the normal Colorado showed up...

our game was their one good effort on the year I’m afraid…they’ve done it every year with Hawkins

by Owen Kemp on Oct 31, 2009 12:46 PM CDT reply actions

and I was so sure it was going to be like that

before that game too, don’t know why, I just had the feeling

by I need more Esteban on Oct 31, 2009 12:48 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm afraid to check the Ralphie Report

after MU walks the ball in the endzone for a TD. Slam may be in for a rough day.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 12:50 PM CDT up reply actions

unfortunately...

for them I think their effort against us amidst a QB change reignited hopes this year and last week in Manhattan and this week against Missouri might just bring back the realization that they still aren’t quite there. Of course who knows they could rally it’s early.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

by Owen Kemp on Oct 31, 2009 12:51 PM CDT up reply actions

I think scoring first

in this game was huge. Both teams have had a tendency to lay down when things go bad.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 12:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep. No pressure on Gabbert

combined with poor DB play is making it easy for MU so far.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 12:48 PM CDT up reply actions

that and you have to give Mizzou credit for...

actually committing to the run early in this one. It’s a strength of theirs and they haven’t always gone with it as much as they should this year.

What I do like about CU if they can ever get things together...

is that they are built offensively to be different than every other team in the Big12…they can man up and play a power game against you if they want and don’t have to rely on the spread it out gameplan.

by Owen Kemp on Oct 31, 2009 12:54 PM CDT reply actions

Have they completely abandoned Scott?

I don’t get how they get the #1 RB recruit in the nation, then the guy never plays.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 12:55 PM CDT up reply actions

well Scott is out now with an injury...

but yes it sure seems they have moved him well behind Rod “if ya think I’m sexy” Stewart. In games he has been in extensively I haven’t been impressed with Scott. I think it was West Virginia this year maybe he was getting caught from behind regularly and honestly if the blocking isn’t there he doesn’t seem to produce much. I just think the transition has been tougher than anyone would have expected for the guy regarded as the top RB in the country out of HS.

3rd & short and CU gives up a long TD pass.

by jco8394 on Oct 31, 2009 1:13 PM CDT reply actions

Todd gift wrapping

a couple less than 5 yard drives for their offense in the first half. We never put enough pressure on them to make them choke.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 1:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Nice Colorade.

Make a good goal line stand then have a quick 3 & out, then let MU waltz into the endzone again.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 1:14 PM CDT reply actions

We basically lost to the worst...

team in the North I think

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

by Owen Kemp on Oct 31, 2009 1:18 PM CDT reply actions

But they just picked Gabbert

to stop a drive! I’m sure they’ll do something NOW! Like turn the ball over on the next snap. What a clownshow. They’re reminding me of Norm Stewart’s last years at MU. They had rotten years, but if they beat us 1 time, they were happy. Apparently CU’s one shining moment against us is sufficient to last them for the year.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 1:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I can tell you it isn't enough for the fans...

but unfortunately I don’t think the school is prepared to buy out Hawkins…this ship could sink very fast

At least they've got basketball to look forward to.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 1:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Don't worry, they'll get a TD,

2 point conversion, then a safety to force overtime, then win when both teams score TD’s in OT, then the opposing teams PAT attempt hits a bird flying through the uprights and is deflected off the goalpost.

by hunter s. royal on Oct 31, 2009 1:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Well...

I’ll say this CU had a bunch of recruits in town today and that stadium will be pretty much empty by half

by jco8394 on Oct 31, 2009 2:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Tech has two safeties out...

there starting LT from the beginning of the year and also an end I believe. Not to mention 3rd string QB is in which doesn’t mean a whole lot with Mike Leach…he can plug about anyone in back there.

by Owen Kemp on Oct 31, 2009 2:25 PM CDT up reply actions

We need some turnovers though.

An early pick would go a long ways to spook their qb even more. Halloween. BOO. Bitch.

by KU Grad 08 on Oct 31, 2009 2:25 PM CDT reply actions

we have to pressure the guy...

Tech’s o-line isn’t great and we need to exploit it somehow. I know our d-line isn’t anything to write home about but we’ve got to find a way to generate some pressure.

well that's actually pretty piss poor if you ask me

just a shade over 50% completion and almost a 1 to 1 TD to INT ratio. That would never go over with Leach : )
