A week after making his first appearance of the season, true freshman cornerback D.J. Beshears will start Saturday against Oklahoma, Mangino said Wednesday.

In replacing incumbent cornerback Daymond Patterson, Beshears, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound Denton, Texas, native, finished with five tackles against the Buffaloes and played with a tenacity that left the team’s coaching staff impressed.

Not sure what to make of this. It's one of those things that is hard to understand because one side of me wants to think, "Oh good, Behears has some potential and is really pushing to get this spot." The other side of me remembers that I said the same thing about Patterson last year and look at him now.

Is this fix permanant?
What happens to Patterson now? (Please no Anthony Webb)

Update: From Jayhawkslant

Prior to the Colorado game, true freshman wide receiver Chris Omigie had replaced Isiah Barfield on the depth chart. Omigie is now listed as the second string wide receiver behind Dezmon Brsicoe. Offensive coordinator Ed Warinner said Omigie is close to burning his redshirt and seeing time on the field.

Warinner said in the right situation they could use him.

Thoughts on this? I'm always a fan of the best players playing no matter what, and if McDougald is seeing more time on D then another playmaker on offense is welcomed by me, dude has got size.

I have to think Patterson finds the field in some way...

he’s a good kid from a good family and he’s talented. He’ll make the best of this and find a way back on the field somewhere.

As for Beshears I’ve heard the two are pretty similar in terms of coverage ability. The biggest thing Beshears has brought that has turned heads is he’s apparently one tough SOB and plays with some attitude which I think the defense is in desperate need of.

i know this is off target but..

does anyone know who is visiting this weekend? I remember from awhile back reading how many of our top targets wanted to visit for the OU game… just wondering if anyone knew anything

And please please dont take the shirt off Omigie

WR is a position of strength and we’ll need him after this year definitely. guess he could use the experience now but this far into season just leave him with an extra year instead of burning it now

I hear ya

but WR is probably the one position I can say with certainty we will be fine with for the next 4-5 years. Keeston Terry & Ricky Herod Jr. coming in next year and not to mention that KU is quickly becoming a WR hotbed, I think we’ll be fine. Plus, Omigie plays this year, and then he’s still got 3 years after that, who knows who we’ll have brought in by then. I say if they can contribute, let em play.

I was really hoping

Xavier Rambo panned out at WR. Just cause I like the name…….

I'm with Este on this one...

I’m not big on burning shirts for positions that require more development but wideout is one of those where guys can jump in and contribute immediately.

Briscoe for example is most likely gone after this year. Had we kept a shirt on him we’d wouldn’t have benefited from his production that first year.

Clearly we’re in a different situation now but my point is 4 years is never promised so if a guy can make a difference you play him.

Anthony Webb

What ever happened to the Spider-Man? He was our top recruit one year, 4 stars, started as a true frosh and…. ?

So where was he all 2007?

Did he lose his job to Harris and just fade after that. Any reason he left?
