Heading to Boulder

Heading to Boulder on Friday for the game. Anyone have an recommendations for me? I've never been to Boulder, so places to eat, tips on parking, or ways to avoid angering the natives are all appreciated.

The natives are fairly easy to get along with...

so I wouldn’t worry to much there. The only chance they have to become difficult is if the Jayhawks blow this one. If we win as we are favored to do, they will go quietly into the night.

Places to go…check out the Darkhorse on Saturday before the game…it’s right as you pull into town off 36…near the stadium and usually a pretty good KU contingent. Good burger/beer joint. I know of at least one bus load going there and I plan to be there I’d be happy to see a fellow RCT’er in the house.

If not there, Pearl Street is a nice area…similar to Mass Street in Lawrence but a little further from the stadium, might be a good option on Friday night.

Lastly there is a section of bars just west of campus of Broadway with some decent spots…can’t remember what the locals call it but maybe “the hill” or something like that.

Enjoy, it’s a great place to catch a game and a pretty good town. I’ve always felt it’s very similar to Lawrence although it might skew a little bit more to the extreme left than Lawrence but their still friendly….

I think one of my favorite experiences was standing outside a bar one night and one of the local homeless was razing some college kids when a “longboard” skateboarder nearly ran into him on the sidewalk…the old man really laid into the kid after he flew face first into the pavement. I believe the quote was…“drive your damn board in the street A$$hole!!”

Not sure why but I laughed quite a while at that one.

Staying in Boulder or Denver? I might have some more recommendations if you know where you’ll be.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

The drive up 34 has a sweet view

when you come up over the hill overlooking the reservoir.

And Pearl Street is much like Mass, except blocked off for pedestrian traffic and a sweet selection of microbreweries, restaurants, and the like.

Go to Illegal Pete's

Fantastic burritos. Mmmmmm…. I also remember a sub shop with some kind of stoner name that was really good, but I can’t remember the name—how ironic.

Fatty J's maybe...

think it’s a pizza/sub place. Also Mustards Last Chance is a pretty sweet hot dog stand over near Pearl Street. I’m not a huge illegal pete’s fan but I know a lot of folks who like it, and I did have a postgame brew there last time KU was out here.
