Wingo?

Clearly KU is nearing the end of its football recruiting and looking toward spring ball.

As has been mention here and throughout Jayhawk nation, we have two scholarships left (possibly three) and are looking to fill these with defensive players.

However, Jayhawkslant.com is continually reporting visits to Ronnie Wingo Jr., especially after he visits other schools. Just last night, they reported that the OC made a visit to his home just hours after Wingo Jr. returned from a visit to Minnesota.

Not having the premium Rivals.com account, I can garner no additional information than what is shown on the front page. Therefore, I'm asking for the RockChalkTalk community to help me out.

From what you all have read, keeping in mind the consistent contact KU is having with Wingo Jr., is there a better chance of landing him than we all think?

Or am I just sold on a pipe dream?

Thanks!

Certainly there is a better chance than many have thought...

throughout the process Wingo has continually kept KU in the running and has a very strong relationship with Ed Warriner. That said I think he is more sold on Warriner than actually sold on KU.

He may shock everybody tomorrow night but my personal opinion is he is not KU bound…I don’t think he’s MU bound either but I really don’t think KU lands this one. Again, I obviously would be thrilled if I am wrong but it will have meant that KUOCEW sold his ass off at the in home on Sunday night.

BTW…glad you’ve joined the community, looks like you’ve been lurking for a while…I hope you’ll feel free to comment, fanpost etc. going forward. The more the merrier.

Arkansas

I’ve read where Arkansas is the favorite.

Thats who I'm guessing

though in the fanshots this is being discussed too and it’s been pointed out that Arkansas already has 29 committments with a few running backs in there, so that might be good news for us. Just not Mizzou!

Anything but

Mizzou. I’m still holding out hope. I’m sorta with scouted here in that I keep seeing news of KUOCEW (good one Denver…) meeting with Wingo seemingly every week. Just the fact that we’re not eliminated gives me real reason to hope. Man that would be freaking sweet.

silence is deafening

The only school that seems to be the front runner is Arkansas but Wingo has been mum about the whole thing so I really am not sure what he will do. Something tells me he is good at poker with the lack of having an idea of what he is doing on his face.

Update

Well, according to his facebook profile, Ronnie is deciding tomorrow morning at 6:20 what school he will attend.

Not getting my hopes up, but as with everyone else…. ANYPLACE BUT MIZZOU!

Update of the update

The press conference was actually supposed to be Tuesday NIGHT at 6:20 during the 6 o’ clock news. But, there is very bad winter weather rolling into the St. Louis area, which has forced the decision to be delayed. To my knowledge, there has not been a makeup date or time announced.

update to the updated update...

sounds like he will still be making his decision today, no presser…just going to keep it low key contacting the coaches. He has been quoted as saying that he’s narrowed it down to Illinois, Arkansas and Missouri for the most part.

:(

Well, looks we can get those defensive recruits we wanted.

Insanity is just a state of mind.

truthfully...

I think we may be done…seems the well is drying up and from what I can gather the coaches are out recruiting this week but for the most part it is being spent solidifying this years class and planting seeds w/coaches for next years class.

still one name out there...

but I’ve been digging unsuccessfully for anything else and even the one name out there seems very quiet right now.

What about Dequin Evans?

Did he pick a west coast school already, or is the writing just on the wall that he isn’t coming to Lawrence?

And, for everyone, keep in mind that we always keep at least one scholly open late. Marcus Henry dropped in our laps because he had nowhere else to go and it was August; six months after signing day. So, there is always the possibility of one of those happening…

by rockchalk on Jan 27, 2009 6:21 PM CST up reply actions

Dequin has publicly stated it's between...

Louisville and Kentucky but the reason behind that is KU had basically decided to move on.

I’m wondering if they are pretty happy with what they’ve got and the fact that Kevin Young is already on campus working out is all the more reason to think he may be able to contribute next year.

OK.

Good to know.

So, really, there is no one else we are pursuing? I suppose that’s not that odd, but it seems weird to me.

rockchalk-

I take it that you do not have a Rivals membership? For all the breaking news, inside info. and great banter on the message boards, it is well worth the $9.95/ month. I don’t post much over there, as most of those guys are much more knowledgable than I, but I LOVE to lurk throughout the day, just to stay in “the know”.

I mean, couldn’t it be counted as a tax write-off for RCT?!?! Haha, hell I think mine should be covered, too ;D

I'm sure the staff is still in on some prospects...

but we’re getting down to the wire and I would think it’s a select few.

GRReedy

I am happy with our class, but sometimes I get that grrr feeling with it would be nice to win such recruiting battles with football. We have picked up some nice additions that I am happy with and I know we will stay the course if not improve greatly the next couple of years.

It would be nice to get that wow player that people in the country take notice. I know we have some that are close to that, but guess that is where my getting greedy comes to play. I do however believe that if we get to a big bowl like the Cotton Bowl and win next year then those wow type players will become more prevalent here in Lawrence.

I'm hopeful that....

we have 1 or 2 of those guys in the 2010 class…at the very least they will be guys that regionally gain a lot of attention.
