Interview with DJ Beshears from Rivals
What position are they recruiting you for?
"I will go in at defensive back. I will probably play corner."What makes you a good corner?
"I have never really played it before so it is kind of new to me."Have they always recruited you as a corner?
"I kind of found out last minute. "Hmm we already have a lot of corners coming in, interesting that he isn't sticking at WR, does this mean a move back to WR for Daymond Patterson? Time will tell.
Comments
Wow.
That really is interesting. Yeah, I think that does mean that Daymond is going back to slot receiver. Honestly, I’ve gotta say I don’t like it. Although, the staff must just be really down on the batch of young corners we have (Greg Brown, Corrigan Powell, Brian Murphy, Isiah Barfield and Anthony Harris). So, I guess, in that sense, it’s fine.
Still, though. I trust the Big Man, but I loved this kid’s tape at WR. I at least hope we try and play him at wideout and see how our corners do; then move him if we have to.
I don't think
this necessarily means DP is going back to WR. I would actually prefer he stay at CB. You can never have ENOUGH good, athletic CB’s in the Big 12. I think the fact that the are putting D.J. at CB means that the Mangenius doesn’t feel good with the current corp of CB’s. D.J. is better with the ball in his hands that DP, so if one of them were to play WR, I think it would be D.J. I think both stay on the defensive side of the ball, and I am just fine with that. As I am with anything Coach Mangino does.
"I just trust what he does. And he has such a great ass..... er... grasp" -Chase "Booger" DanielS on Colt McCoy's "Ass-ets"
I would agree...
I don’t think this necessarily is tied to Daymond Patterson and where we see him next year. Quite simply it’s much easier to find a receiver than a corner and my guess is we’re making sure we have enough horses in the stable, if half pan out we would be in great shape.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
Well
Think about it, which position is more stable, and which one do we feel the most comfortable with, without this new recruiting class. I say WR, because we have Wilson, Meier, and Briscoe coming back. That means we find one new WR. I think this move just sets up our CB position to be better moving forward.
Insanity is just a state of mind.
From some more of the interview
I got the sense that DJ might get a chance to play a little of both ways….who knows, though, with the more talent that Mangino is bringing in, the days of players playing both ways might be over at KU.
