Kerry Locklin Named KU Defensive Line Coach
Locklin comes to Lawrence by way of Fresno State and would appear to have an excellent knack for developing talent. Another potential plus here is Fresno State was a major player for Donnie Pritchett one of our remaining defensive end recruits that just visited this past weekend. Furthermore Locklin is a Texas guy with connections on the west coast. The hires of Miller and Locklin could turn out to be two of the biggest pickups in the offseason "recruiting" for the Jayhawks in 2009

I know he sounds great and all
but is it just me or is this hire kind of a letdown after all that waiting games and buildup?
Thoughts?

Not for me at all...
I wasn’t exactly expecting a big name hire here but what I was told from a player very early on in this process was that the coaching staff wanted someone who was experienced and someone who had proven abilities in DEVELOPING players. That’s big for the coaching staff and as this player told me it’s important to guys in the program. They want to be put in the best position to be successful and I don’t think as likable as the two departing coaches were that they instilled any longterm hopes in thse guys.
Locklin brings experience to the table, he’s a players coach which will help balance the staff out a little and I think you’ll see he has done a fairly good job of developing talent at Fresno. With an improved program and players he could do even better. I’ll do a closer look into both Locklin and MIller sometime next week perhaps in a couple of Get to Know segments.
In addition based on the three names I’ve heard as finalists, we really couldn’t have gone wrong but I felt like Locklin might have been the guy that would be the hungriest of the group.

Points well taken
I haven’t done any research yet at all about Locklin, regarding former players at Fresno and what he did for them, at all yet. So I wasn’t killing the move. That was just kind of my initial gut reaction. But, I get what you are saying and I trust the Mangenius.

recruiting
I think its great KU hired a D-Line coach but I was wandering did KU lose a recruit.Earliar today I checked Rivals.com for updates and it said 3 star Defensive Back Rashawn Copeland out of Highland Community College had committed to KU and signed a letter of intent.. When I checked again I noticed his name wasn’t on the list of recruits for KU. Does anyone know what possibly could have caused his name to be removed from the list.

He is a preferred walk-on...
those typically aren’t added to the list until the final team rankings come out…I noticed it in there today as well and found it curious, it’s probably more normal that it not be included yet so I wouldn’t worry. Copeland is on campus and participating in workouts.

Sounds solid
Fresno St has been a good program for a while. Hopefully he’ll work these new recruits into something special for us.
Insanity is just a state of mind.
I think I'm most excited
about the possibility that he can recruit the west coast for us. I don’t know how well he’ll be able to but you figure after 7 years on the west coast that he has made some connections, football can’t come soon enough for me.
