Open Thread #16 (vs. K-State) Roll Call

OK, now that I figured out how to do these things (H/T: Chris of Arrowhead Pride), I plan to do one of them for each of the games from here-on-out. Now that we are regulary getting hundreds and hundreds of commenters, this will be a lot more interesting.

Here we go.

Also, hopefully more of you regular contributors will also show up for the Game Threads. Me, Denver, hunter and warden are all there just about every game, and KCsince88 showed up bigtime tonight. I'm looking at you, specifically, giants, Esteban, 2.1 and KGRTC. The rest of you, as well, but those are the other key members of this-here-blarg.

OK, with all of that said, here's the roll call:

Sorry

But I can’t watch and be on here during the game. And given the choice between the two, I’d rather watch, sorry. :)

But for the games I don’t get, I’ll be on here.

Insanity is just a state of mind.

I understand.

No worries.

I wasn’t trying to call anyone out, just offering a friendly suggestion…yeah.

Yeah

I didn’t take it as that. Just giving a heads up.

I'll admit

its different doing an open thread here than for baseball. I make liberal use of the DVR…

Agreed.

Basketball is definitely the hardest sport to OGT, with the constant action and all.

newbie

I just joined a week ago so I need to get up there in posts, I am a winner I tell you!!!! A good game last night, not a bad start to the season, but I maybe at the game Saturday since I live in Denver and I have family in town too. I was happy to see Mario get more involved so that is hopefully a sign of things to come but I am bothered that we were out rebounded which means Cole needs more support.

I'll be there as well...

should be all blue in that place

I'm really a lot more productive

than last night’s game suggests. I’m predicting 100 without breaking a sweat on Saturday. Not predicting higher because this game could be ugly in a matter of minutes.

by Warden11 on Jan 14, 2009 12:27 PM CST reply actions

Yeah I'd like to

but I’m normally watching the games at friends houses and the like. You know I’ll be around before and after givin’ my thoughts, though.

by I need more Esteban on Jan 14, 2009 1:29 PM CST reply actions

Colorado

I should be around for the game, as well. Unless I can’t find it on tv anywhere, then I might have to go find it at a bar somewhere.

Sounds like a good win last night- didn’t get to watch the game. Did Little make the right choice?

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Jan 14, 2009 2:08 PM CST reply actions

Little made the right choice...

at least it would appear that way so far…he looked like a new man last night, smooth jumper on that guy.

As far as the CU game, if I’m not mistaken isn’t it the 2:30CST CBS Game…I know it’s a 1:30 tip out here

ABC.

It’s ABC regional, too, and the other option is undefeated Wake Forest @ undefeated Clemson.

So, I’d bet that it’ll only be shown in the Denver and KC markets. I know, if it were me, I’d rather watch two undefeateds than some power who is struggling matchup with one of Division 1’s worst teams. Period.

by rockchalk on Jan 14, 2009 8:00 PM CST up reply actions

True

and that is what is happening here in NYC – BUT… I HATE hate HATE!!! regional coverage. Why would a network devote all the resources to cover a game and only show it in 2 or three markets? If the game is going to be pre-empted (sp) by a game that is more compelling, simply put it on ESPN2 or ESPNU. I can assure you KU playing on ESPNU would garner better ratings nationally than regional ABC coverage. Makes no sense. So I won’t be on the boards Sat b/c I’ll be at the Pourhouse.

by labbadabba on Jan 15, 2009 8:22 AM CST up reply actions

+1 on the regional coverage.

That should leave our little group here at RCT relatively small. Still, I’ll be here, with ESPN FC, ready for the game. Also, this week is ESPN’s free preview, and all ABC regional games are on in FC. So, if you want to watch the game, but don’t get it locally, you should get the free preview and be good to go.

by rockchalk on Jan 15, 2009 10:52 PM CST up reply actions

I'll check that out....

that would be sweet. Do you have DTV or Cable?

by labbadabba on Jan 15, 2009 11:31 PM CST up reply actions

DirecTV.

Greatest thing you could ever buy, IMO. More channels, and all of that fun stuff, but more importantly, it has all of the sports packages. Full Court, NFL Sunday Ticket, Extra Innings. It’s how I can watch every Royals, Chiefs and Jayhawks game way out in Southern California.

It can get expensive, but I’m not paying for it.. ;) When I move out and go to college, we’ll see if I’m still getting the works.

by rockchalk on Jan 15, 2009 11:45 PM CST up reply actions

Heard on the radio this morning

that Time Warner Cable also offers Full Court. I know my crappy cable company doesn’t, but some do.

by Warden11 on Jan 16, 2009 12:33 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah - Time Warner does

I asked because I wasn’t sure if it was a DTV promo or an ESPN promo. I still hate regional coverage on national networks. hate hate hate freaking HATE IT!!

Choppers

If you want a true KU bar in Colorado go to Choppers. Plenty of fans and they play the fight song before the game. I think Little did the right thing. He will get better and we will improve with him. A selfish reason for me is we get the extra scholarship a year earlier with him not redshirting. I do not think we are a title team next year, but we will be a major player, but having new bodies will be important for the future will be very important.

by BaldJedi on Jan 14, 2009 2:17 PM CST reply actions

My favorite thing about Choppers is...

the poster featuring Mark Randall as you first walk in the door…I have one of his shoes from way back in the day, kind of a funny story. Anyway, love Choppers it’s kind of like going home every once in a while even though you’re so far away.

choppers again

I was at Choppers last year for the title game and it was amazing. Drunkenness and foolish KU fans celebrating. I have been told if you youtube it you can find a guy practically standing on the bar screaming. that’s me haha. Hard to see with the reflection of my shaved head shining. A great time.

Can you find BaldJedi...

Here is the video from the KU Mecca for Denverites

wow I can watch that stuff for hours

everytime I go look at that stuff I go through like 50 videos, give me the chills everytime.

shaking my head

There is a part of that video I am in with my arms up jumping up and down to the left of the screen. I am famous!!! haha. Mark Randall was there for part of it by the way until he left to go elsewhere. I own that Championship DVD and lost my voice that night. Couldn’t tell you how many shots I did after the game and holy crap the girls!! Rock Chalk baby

That was a great link Denver.

Really brings back the joy of the National Championship victory. Interesting scorecard on the game thread. I certainly don’t blame anybody who can get into Allen Field House for missing threads, but it’s fun to put some instant thoughts out there as the game is on. Everybody contributes something from a slightly different slant and some of the side discussions are fascinating. Knowing I’ll participate in a game thread actually makes me study up a bit more before the games(even if it doesn’t seem like it from my comments) and adds some enjoyment to the experience.

Hunter...

glad you enjoy the threads and glad you’ve been joining us of late. For me it’s nice because living away from Lawrence and not always having the ability to watch with other Jayhawk fans it gives that same feel. I like to think of it as a virtual Kansas Sports bar…
