A source with inside knowledge of the negotiations told the Journal-World on Thursday that Kansas University is planning to announce Friday that it will be putting tickets on sale for the 2008 Insight Bowl.

The Tempe, Ariz.-based bowl, which kicks off at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 at Sun Devil Stadium, annually pits a Big 12 team against a team from the Big Ten. Because it remains unclear how many Big Ten teams will be represented in BCS bowls, however, the Jayhawks' opponent has not yet been determined.

...

The Alamo Bowl, which had discussed the possibility of offering a bid to Kansas, is no longer an option for the Jayhawks. According to the source, even if the Alamo Bowl thought Kansas would be a better draw, the San Antonio-based bowl would not want to go against the wishes of one of its partners, the Big 12 Conference, by bypassing the North champion in favor of the division's third-place finisher.

KU Sports -- KU Headed to Insight Bowl

Well, this sucks. I was going to do some bowl-related post on what we should expect, but oh well. Basically, as the article says, it came down to the Alamo or Insight for us, with the Alamo (and it being on ESPN, as opposed to the NFLN) and all of that fun stuff being the much more attractive option. And, supposedly, the Alamo wanted us over the Tigers (how funny would it have been to supercede Missouri two straight years when they co-won the North), but the Big 12 nixed it.

Ah, well.

sorry...

…but just because your AD tried to get in the Alamo Bowl’s ear doesn’t mean they actually wanted you over Missouri. :-)

It sounds a lot like they may have wanted to look to Kansas over MU..

but the Big12 was against it.

I know.

There have just been people on message boards and stuff with ‘sources’ and the like stating that the Alamo Bowl favored us. Just a hunch, and I figured the word ‘supposedly’ would do enough to let people know it for sure wasn’t a done deal or anything.

I like Insight for us...

obviously Alamo would have been better from a TV perspective. And in all technicality, we would get to play a better opponent. But since the only two above average teams in the conference are PSU and OSU, I think the difference there is negligible. Really, is Northwestern that much better than Wisconsin?

As for the Insight, Phoenix is one of our huge alumni bases, and is an easy trip from Denver and LA (two other pretty decent alumni bases) so we should be very well represented. I’m sure we would have been in San Antonio also, but what we really need to be happy about is that we didn’t end up in Shreveport or El Paso. See you In Tempe.

On a personal note...

I am excited about the insight from the prospect of attending myself. Right now flights from Denver are only around180 and it would be a bit more to any of the other locations…if your going HipHop I may see if you want to grab a beer as I may be flying solo for the trip.

HipHop

BTW…saw a tailgate at the Mizzou game with a Kansas it’s business time flag on the side of the vehicle…thought about stopping to see if it was you, but had family with me so I didn’t…that said any chance it was?
