The Journey of Kerry Meier
I know many have probably seen this, but I wanted to share my thoughts and hear others on this article related to Kerry Meier. This isn't the first time we'ver heard his story and I'm sure it won't be the last, but everytime I hear it I think this transition for him couldn't have come at a better time. Kansas football is experiencing a special time and it's nice that there is a guy like Meier that defines what the program has been about and become recently. Great Player, great person, true teammate...I for one have really enjoyed watching this story unfold and look forward to the final KU chapter in 2009.

I've been wondering this for a while...
How good do you guys think Kerry Meier is going to be next year when he hands over backup QB duties to Kale Pick and practices full time with the receivers? Big XII North Champion good or just scary good? Hopefully both. I think that the extra time with the receivers will definitely help him out, but I still think that the reason he’s such a good receiver is because he knows exactly where he would want himself to be if he was throwing the ball. Thats a convoluted sentence but hopefully you get me. Also, he’s one of the best college receivers I’ve seen at running third down routes that are past the marker – I HATE it when a receiver doesn’t run a route past the first down marker on third down.
Oh and I hear the Chiefs need a possesion receiver to put with dwayne bowe….although I don’t know if I want to wish the Chiefs on Kerry

I have had the same thoughts, but...
after reading the article and his love for the quarterback position I wonder if he will be giving up the reigns to the backup spot next year.
I guess I get the impression that while he may be able to focus more reps in practice toward the receiver spot, Meier will still be the backup QB next year in the case of an injury to Reesing and after reading this I think he’s earned that at the very least.

The reason I think that he'll hand over backup QB
Is because I remember reading a feature story on kusports.com back when Meier was tied for first in receptions per game detailing that he had gone to the coaches and told them that he wanted to hand over backup QB duties to Kale Pick and start practicing with the receivers full time next season.
I think that this is a better idea too, because otherwise if reesing gets injured we lose both our starting QB and our most dependable receiver…whereas if reesing gets injured and Pick is the backup then at least he can still throw it to Kerry.
This despite the fact that I don’t know what to think about a QB with the last name of “Pick”. But I’m sure he’s going to try his best to avoid the puns sportscasters will salivate over.

I must have missed that one...
but definitely agree with the rationale…

The sky is up
Last year Meier was kind of a nice little story, lost QB job, took it like a good soldier, made a few plays. I thought if he could repeat it that would be nice. Instead he was fantastic. Had an incredible year even being half-crippled the last four games. His play in the Big 12 Championship game is why we care about sports. I still get chills remembering Reesing to Meier with 37 seconds left. I think he’ll be better in 2009; 1st team Big 12 better. Hopefully he makes a billion dollars in the NFL. He’ll know how to handle it.

I remember watching Meier play baseball in a couple of Babe Ruth state tournaments.
He was far and away the best 13 and 14 year old baseball player I have ever seen. I’ve umpired multiple state tournaments and still very few come close to him. Just shows what kind of an athlete he is, along with the switch and success at WR.
