Another Day, Another Commitment
The dominoes continue to fall for Mark Mangino and the Kansas coaching staff. Today the Jayhawks added a little help at a key position and help that comes from a familiar place.
Calvin Rubles visited Kansas over the past weekend and after talking things over and an in home visit from some of the coaching staff he was ready to make his decision. Rubles a junior college cornerback out of Tyler Texas has given his commitment to play the remainder of his college days with the Kansas Jayhawks.
For those who aren’t familiar with Rubles he is a 6’2” 180 pound corner with 4.4 speed. He played his high school ball at a school and with another player that will probably be quite familiar to many Jayhawk fans. Berkner High School in Texas is not only the starting point for Rubles but also for former Jayhawk and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer rookie Aquib Talib. Besides sharing a school in common fans will also notice both Talib and Rubles have very similar measurables. Now the next step is determining what help Rubles can provide to a secondary that faces some of the most potent offenses in the country.
The addition is no question a welcome sign for a defense looking to improve in the 2009 season and another solid pickup for Coach Mangino.
I'm still working on setting up a an opportunity to talk further with Dent and now Rubles and hopefully we can get something scheduled in the coming week. If not it will be something I'll look to near signing day.

Great News!
If Dent can develop and Parrish can keep improving we should have a strong line and a solid secondary (as long as Stuckey doenst jump). Now, we just need Ronnie Wingo to sign
Clint Bowen is on a mission...
and right now with 10/16 recruits seen as defensive prospects +1 preferred walk on, I think Mangino and Bowen are definitely looking to upgrade that side of the ball.
I also echo your sentiments with Ronnie Wingo…that would be monumental in my opinion because I don’t think many are giving us a chance on that one, but it sure seems like we’ve got a shot.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
With Dent and Parish side by side...
Kansas will have a space eater and a guy that can get pressure in the middle playing together, great combination!!
A little more info on Rubles as well, he was looking at a UCLA visit and also LSU had started to show some interest in recent weeks. I think there is a lot of upside with this one, just have to develop it.

I'm pretty excited
about Sellers coming off the end too. Do we know whats happening with Ransberg? Is he still inelligible?
Ransberg...
is kind of up in the air from what I can tell. He has wrapped up the eligibility issue, I guess now it’s a matter of whether or not he’ll make it to campus.
I’ll see if I can track him down and get an update for you, it’s been some time since I’ve heard anything.
As far as Sellers, I’m really excited about him, obviously he’s going to need to put on some weight and they’ll be some necessary development but he just seems like a guy with something to prove and he has been gaining a lot of praise out there from folks for his performances this year. Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year I think I may have mentioned in a past post.
