Bill Snyder to Return as the Kansas State Football Coach.
The Wichita Eagle among other publications is reporting the Bill Snyder, the architect of one of the greatest football turnarounds of all time will return to Kansas State as its head coach at the ripe old age of 69. Interesting move to say the least.
The next question would have to be, what assistants are lined up? Is there a transition planned? A coach in waiting? Not everyone can be Joe Paterno and surely Bill Snyder has no intention of coaching into his 80's. Makes you wonder what the longterm plan is at Kansas State.

I don’t think there is a long term plan at KState. Just like there was no long term plan in hiring a basketball coach- they rented Beasley for a year, and hoped for the best.
Frankly, this is an opportunity for KU to take control of in-state recruiting. While Kansas isn’t the most fertile of grounds, there are notable players that come around every couple of years, and it would be great if they started consistently coming to KU.
KState’s plight has reminded me what a privilege it is to have a great Athletic Director that can raise the entire brand name and visibility of a program.

Until...
I see a legitimate coach in waiting, or succession plan associated with this…it would appear to have no real chance but to be a bad move for the long term.
I’m not saying Snyder won’t provide a spark, but even if he does it will be for a short time and I don’t foresee it helping as much as if the school had made a legitimate coaching search and hire…of course they haven’t done that for a while in any sport.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
Honestly, I cannot believe this.
Like, seriously. I had heard his name bandied about, of course, but figured that was just fans grasping at straws, hoping to regain their lone stretch of football success. And Snyder was an absolutely outstanding coach, one of the best in the history of the Big 8/12 and all of college football.
But he is old, retired because he didn’t really want to recruit anymore (which is partly why Prince-a-rific over there was given a pretty bare cupboard; not to justify his performance, but it isn’t like he was handed over keys to a Porsche or anything) and is certainly not a long-term solution.
Unless they can get a young guy in there who will be an Coordinator (offense or defense, it really doesn’t matter) who will also serve as “Associate Head Coach” and have Snyder essentially groom him to take over, it is a move that seriously hurts them long-term. And, honestly, who would you expect to take that job, even if there is a guarantee that it’ll be only two or three years until they’re hired.
With this whole situation, there is a decent chance that the Powercats fall completely off the map for awhile in football. And basketball shouldn’t rescue them every year, as Michael Beasley’s won’t keep coming back to Mancrappin’.
