Open Game Thread :: Game #2 :: Florida Gulf Coast 0-0 (0-0) @ #23 Kansas 1-0 (0-0)

Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at Kansas Jayhawks, Nov 18, 2008 8:00 PM CST

I am currently in the process of writing multiple basketball-related stories, so hopefully those can be completed today and tomorrow.

Pay particularly close attention to the freshmen; each and every game, there should be noticeable improvement, at least by some of the players.

Hopefully the first half turns out better this time around.

Releford

Really like his game. Haven’t seen his jumper yet, but he’s a great slasher and “glue guy.”

yeah I just got the feed...so haven't seen much yet but

Aldrich really looks like a confident kid this year

At This Rate...

Cole might be in the NBA in a year. Had no idea he had that kind of range.

I think he's the kind of kid that is going to improve exponentially

by Owen Kemp on Nov 18, 2008 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

I hope not

Kansas is going to be much better next year, Cole really didn’t get much experience, nor did most of the other sophs. Then TT will have experience too capped off by senior leader ship by Sherron (if he stays).

I think cole will be around...

although Sherron is going to be given a bit of a green light this year so my gut tells me he’ll be gone

I hope he realizes

How good they could be. Getting to football though, do u think Todd Ressing will go to the NFL? What about Briscoe, Sharp or Meier?

Reesing and Sharp...No way

Briscoe Yes and Meier I think he could, should and I really hope he does

I didn't think Reesing would

It appears as if he values academics.

As far as going early...

I don’t think any of them will go early…In general Reesing won’t get a shot because of his size and Sharp just isn’t an NFL RB…Briscoe is developing nicely and will by the time he’s done at Kansas be the best reciever we have ever had and will get a pro shot…Meier is big, fast (when not nursing a hammy) and has tremendous drive, I think if he wants he’ll get a shot when his KU days are done.

I'll be honest...

I’ve been watching UNC vs. UK and it’s been ugly, poor fundamentals, sloppy BBall and this brief time watching out super young team we look pretty composed.

It's funny watching this on that little screen online...

not sure which Morris brother is wearing #21 but I keep having flashbacks to Nick Bradford…makes me nervous everytime he touches the ball

Crash Boards

I’m really impressed with how the freshman rebound. They really attack the glass with abandon.

Can't wait till we get T. Robinson on campus...

Self commented he might be the best rebounder he has ever seen.

I'm curious to see how things shake out later this year in terms of PT...

for Reed, Morningstar, and Teahan…I really hope Reed continues to see PT and I think he is talented enough but I’ve got to believe as this team gels we see less Morningstar and Teahan god love em both.

18 so far right???

If he’s at 18 with this lead he won’t see enough PT to hit for 40 I’ll say 26

Bigs

This season will depend a lot on the development of the front court. Teams will be attacking Cole trying to get him in foul trouble. Are these 6’8 guys big and strong enough to board and finish against Big 12 talent? That probably will determine how good this team can be.

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Nov 18, 2008 9:00 PM CST reply actions

Absolutely...

Can they handle a guy like Blake Griffin will be the question

POY Watch

…Harongody? Really? Really? He’s like a less athletic Hansbrough.

Classic East Coast Bias product.

Griffin and Curry are the cream of that crop.

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Nov 18, 2008 9:05 PM CST reply actions

Curry won't get enought exposure over the whole year I don't think...

he came out strong beginning of last year, but once davidson got into conference play he’s invisible…Harongody, that has to be a joke I’ll say it’s clearly going to either Hansbrough or Griffin…but with the media machine in full force behind UNC my bet is Hansbrough wins it again even if he sits for the first month.

One think I like about Self over Roy...

is he has never been afraid to let his guys play hard on defense, go for the block, maybe you get the foul but at least you don’t stand their like an idiot with your hands straight up while the guy dunks on you or shoots over you.

Just got here.

Checked up on the score really quick, saw 70-28, and am now watching Davidson-OU. I Tivo’d the game, and will watch it sometime soon.

Thanks to all three of you for showing up, I should be able to actively participate in both of the CBE Final games, which should make these GameThreads quite enjoyable.
