Open Game Thread :: Game #2 :: #19 Kansas 3-1 (0-0) @ Iowa State 2-2 (0-0)
Kansas Jayhawks @ Iowa St. Cyclones
Here we sit, on the brink of conference play. With South Florida's trip-up on Thursday night, our loss looks less acceptable. Not that it is any less acceptable, and I certainly believe South Florida to be better than they displayed on Thursday, but we still should have won the game. But today, and the rest of the year, isn't about that one fateful night in Tampa. No, it is about a year-long validation tour throughout the Big 12, having to make a respectable bowl and compete with the Big 12's big boys (Texas, Tech, Oklahoma and Mizzou) for us to earn that validation. Well, I suppose we already should have it, but in the eys of the media, it is something that is still up in the air.
Oh well. Here is a good chance. We are fully expected to win, obviously, but the more demolishing the victory, the better. I'll take any road conference victory at any time, of course, but it would be really nice to have the pass rush or rushing attack get a rather large boost. We need some positive spark to show up today.
Enough late-night ramblings, let's get to some football...
ROCK CHALK!

Absolute Horseshit
They really should be ashamed of themselves. They came out completely unfocused and unprepared for this game, despite having TWO weeks of preparation. And thanks to their irresponsibility, the season is likely lost as a result.
This won’t just be another tally in the L column. This is the type of game that will ruin a season, and set the program’s recruiting back several years.
They’ll likely put up a fight in the second half, but the damage has been done. Pathetic.

Don't you love how things like this...
are saved for you to look back on…truthfully I think I was thinking the same thing but wasn’t on the internet during the game so I couldn’t express it…now I can claim to have had faith and known this team would rally and win. =)

That's a good question
But usually this place is alive with comments on Gamedays. Must be a slow weekend.
Sorry I don’t post more, but school keeps me busy.

yeah I was a little surprised by the lack of comments...
on the gameday post but for me Saturday and College Football is a time for friends and fellow jayhawks and that means I sometimes don’t make it to the computer screen. What can you do…good win.

Yeah
Figured most people would be out.
Anyway, if Mizzou keeps Daniel in, I might explode. The only reason would be stat-padding. Hopefully they don’t, but knowing Mizzou…

Well
I think we all know what happened in the first half. Nothing was working, and the whole team looked confused. Then halftime came. Whatever Mangino & Co. said obviously worked. I like the flow of our offense, especially since we were still successful, even without much threat of a run game, although Sharp was a semi-bright spot. He was hitting the holes and breaking tackles, and looked good. Our line just isn’t made for running. Reesing got back on target, which broke things wide open.
The thing that worried me was how our defense gave up so much. Yeah, the two times ISU scored, they had good position. But we still gave up 2 touchdowns. Our coverage needs to better. We seem to be getting decent pressure, and the run was stopped efficiently enough. Overall, I think the defense needs to work on pass coverage, especially for the TT game. But for now, our offense seems good enough to cover for them.
That’s it for now. Maybe talk a little more about it tomorrow.
