NBA Opening Night a Good One for Jayhawk Rookies

The NBA opened its season this week and Kansas' has several alums making their debuts following the 2008 National Championship Season.

Mario Chalmers started for the Miami Heat and probably has many wishing they hadn't passed on hm in round 1.  Mario is clearly an NBA ready guard and outplayed his more celebrated rookie counterpart Michael Beasley.  Mario's final line of 17pts, 7 rebs, and 8 assists is no small contribution and will certainly earn him continued time with the Heat going forward.

Moving on to Memphis and Darrell Arthur.  While Arthur didn't start he did gain a lot of attention with his first career NBA double double.  Arthur grabbed an impressive 15 rebounds while also putting up 11 points for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Brandon Rush logged 24 minutes in his debut with the Indiana Pacers.  Rush scored 7pts during a game against the Pistons where his teamate Danny Granger scored 33pts in a loss.

Not to be outdone NBA vets Paul Pierce(27pts, 4ast, 3reb), Kirk Hinrich(15pts, 7ast) and Drew Gooden(13pts, 8reb, 3stl) all had strong games in their openers on Tuesday night.  Jacque Vaughn and Nick Collison also saw action on NBA opening night.

Nice spam

and also nice post. I’m not sure how many more 17, 7 and 8’s we’ll see from Mario, but I definitely think he landed in a good spot for his skill set.

I think he really ended up in a great position...

he isn’t the one w/the expecations, that rests w/Beasely, he has some excellent talent around him and a franchise that should only improve.

As glad as I am to see it...

I wish we could have gotten DA to grab 15 boards in 27 mins. Or to only have 3 fouls in that amount of time…

Then again, we’re National Champions so who cares!

That was my first thought...

where the hell did he find 15 rebs??

I was hoping we'd get some votes for Darnell...

Darnell/Rush

Its sad that Darnell is hurt, he was playing really well in the summer league/preseason.. I love to see him know down the jumper, it always make me smile.. I saw him hit one maybe a foot short of the 3..

I watched the Pacers game, as i am a fan, and even more that BRush is there, he played a VERY solid game, his line might not be to impressive, but he defended Tayshawn prince the entire game and did is as good as anyone can against that beast of a man, I voted for Rush cause he like chalmers is in a great situation, hes going to get quite a bit of playing time and the Coach seems to really like him, the team is getting good quickly in Indy, they are all young and talented. Once they get Dunleavy back they will be even better, they could push for a Playoff spot this season, and once the younger guys (rush/Hibbert) grow some they’ll just get better.

I was curious about Brandon's game...

often times stats don’t tell the whole story, thanks for the info…you’ll have to keep us all updated on him and look forward to hearing more from you on the Kansas Basketball front.
